And that turned out to be her last win of the season. A second round defeat in Hobart and opening losses at Australian Open and Monterrey finished her season off before the pandemic. And when play resumed after the pandemic, Kozlova was sent packing in the first round of the Cincinnati Open qualifiers by Laura Siegemund.
Kozlova is more of a clay court specialist and that, along with the lack of practice – she didn’t play at all during the pandemic break – has probably contributed to her poor form this season.

Osuigwe Gunning for First Main Draw Win Since March Last Season
18-year-old Osuigwe has been around on the lower circuits and in American tennis for a while now but still waiting to take that step up on the lines of Cori Gauff. She has barely won a main draw match at the WTA level with her last such win coming at the Miami Open in 2019.
This participation in the US Open will be her third tournament of the year following the qualifiers at Brisbane and Australian Open. At both tournaments she lost her opening qualifying rounds.
Since then she has played in an ITF tournament where she lost in the second round and the US Pro Series and Grand Slam Tennis Tours MatchPlay during the pandemic break.
A former junior number one and a juniors French Open winner, Osuigwe’s first task would be to win her first ever main draw win at a Grand Slam. She has a struggling opponent against her.
