Karolina Muchova v Venus Williams Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between World No. 26 Karolina Muchova and seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams.

Muchova Struggling to Replicate the Form of 2019
Karolina Muchova has steadily improved over the last two year. The 24-year-old Czech first reached the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships in 2019 by upsetting Annett Kontaveit in the third round and compatriot Karolina Pliskova in the Round of 16.
That success was soon followed by a maiden WTA title in Korea, where she defeated Magda Linette in a one-sided final. She ended the year strongly by reaching the semifinals at the WTA Elite Trophy and achieving her highest ranking of 21.
Currently ranked 26th in the world, Muchova is yet to make an impression in 2020. She enters the U.S. Open with a 3-5 record this year.
Knocked out of the first round in Brisbane, Muchova cleared the first hurdle at the Australian Open but was ousted in the second round by CiCi Bellis. Disappointments continued in Dubai and Qatar, as she lost in the first and second rounds respectively, before the Tour got suspended.
She got off to a winning start on return at the Cincinnati Open, defeating Ann Li of America in straight sets, but failed to down Naomi Osaka in the second round, despite winning the first set in a tie-breaker.
At the U.S. Open, she has been handed a tough draw and will have to be at her best right from the first match.

Can Williams Turn Back the Clock?
She may be 40 and may not have achieved anything significant since the stellar 2017 season, but the winner of 49 singles and 22 doubles titles cannot be taken lightly. Over the last two-and-a-half decades Venus Williams has been a genius at work, who has wowed the tennis world with her power, strength and skills.
Diagnosed with Sjogren’s syndrome in 2011, the last decade has been a story of Williams’ determination and hunger to succeed against the odds. There were several occasions when it felt like her glorious career was coming to an end, but each time Venus found a way to show the world that she still has lots to offer.
She made quite a few comebacks over the last 10 years, and the greatest of them all was three years ago, when she reached the final of the Australian Open and Wimbledon and the semifinal at Flushing Meadows.
Ever since that 2017 U.S. Open semifinal defeat to Sloane Stephens, the former World No. 1 has struggled in the majors. Currently ranked 65th in the world, Venus Williams was knocked out by Elina Svitolina in the second round at the U.S. Open last year.
So far in 2020, the four-time Olympic Gold-medallist (singles in 2000 and doubles in 2000, 2008 and 2012; plus a silver in doubles in 2016) has a 1-5 record, with her only victory coming earlier in August against Cincinnati champion Victoria Azarenka at the Top Seed Open. She was defeated by sister Serena in an engaging three-setter in the second round of the Lexington tournament. At the Cincinnati Open, Venus failed to capitalize on a one-set lead to go down against Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska in the first round.
Overall Williams may not have been in the best of forms in the run-up to the U.S. Open, but the two-time champion and two-time finalist in New York knows how to make comebacks, and will use all her experience to make a deep run in the tournament.
