Ons Jabeur v Kaia Kanepi Head to Head
This will be their second match. The first time Jabeur and Kanepi faced off in a match was in the 2015 Indian Wells Open and Jabeur had won that first round match in straight sets.

Jabeur was stretched in the second set of her first round match against Katarzyna Kawa, one that lasted almost an hour before she won in straight sets. The Tunisian was broken four times in the match, three of which came in the second set.
However, the biggest advantage Jabeur had was her own game against Kawa’s serve, helping her break her Polish opponent six times in the match. She won 6-2, 7-6 to move into the second round but not before she had hit 21 unforced errors to only 14 winners.
That’s a statistic Jabeur will hope to turn around against Kanepi. And she has shown in the past she has the capability to raise her game too.
She had reached the quarterfinal of the Cincinnati Open and the Lexington Open before that, having also made it to the last-eight stage of the Australian Open.

Kanepi Registers Maiden Win of the Season
Kanepi had participated in the Merko Cup during the pandemic break, and won both her matches – against Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova – but other than that had played in just two tournaments this year.
The first came at Brisbane International, where she went down to Marie Bouzkova in the qualifiers and then at the Australian Open where she capitulated in the first round.
And that was the last time she played tennis before the break.
Even after the break, the former world number 15 is playing in only her first competition and she has now reached the same stage where she had at the last US Open. The six-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist will hope to edge past Jabeur here.
