Petra Kvitova v Jessica Pegula Head to Head
This will be the first time Kvitova and Pegula will be facing off in a competitive match of this nature.

Kvitova Tested but Through in Straights
After having dispatched Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round, there was no stopping Kvitova in the second either as she won 7-6, 6-2 against Kateryna Kozlova.
In doing so she has taken a step closer towards making her first ever US Open semifinal, having never gotten there – the Czech is a finalist at the Australian Open and a semifinalist at the French Open other than being a two-time Wimbledon champion which is why even a greater surprise she has never made the US Open last-four.
The first set against Kozlova wasn’t easy as she thwarted a set-point opportunity her opponent had in the first set at 5-4. However, in her own words, once she was done battling with her own nerves and won the opening set tie-breaker, it became a lot easier for Kvitov as she raced through the second set to complete the victory.
The key to her success continued to be her serve, winning 89% of her first serve points as opposed to her opponent’s 57%. Can she continue in the same vein against Pegula?

Fighting Pegula Continues Excellent 2020
Pegula has had to endure two tough rounds but in both, she has come through to make it to her maiden third round place at a Grand Slam tournament. The only other time Pegula had reached as far as even the second round was at Flushing Meadows itself, in 2015 but since then, on the five Grand Slam occasions she has qualified for the main draw, Pegula has lost her openers.
And when she lost her opening set to Marie Bouzkova in the first round, it looked like a familiar story was getting written. Instead, Pegula fought back to level the scores and took the third set in a tie-breaker, 7-3.
In his second round yesterday, Kirsten Flipkens threw her another curveball by forcing her into a third set by pocketing the second tie-breaker.
Pegula looked composed though. She started off the third set well, breaking Flipkens in the fourth game to go 3-1 up. And from there on, she took control of the game and finished it off 6-3 to reach this maiden Grand Slam third round.
It is this very fighting quality that could come in handy for the 2020 Auckland Open final.
Kvitova v Pegula Prediction & Tip
While Kvitova is 1/3 to win this one we think it might not be the most straightforward of matches. While we believe a third set could be in the offing in this match, we will prefer a slightly less risky games market.
Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 4/5 (bet365)
