Pablo Carreno Busta v Ricardas Berankis Head to Head
Carreno Busta won the pair’s only meeting which incidentally took place at the 2019 US Open. He dropped a set in his second round victory.

Can Carreno Busta Repeat 2017 Heroics?
Pablo Carreno Busta, a US Open semifinalist in 2017, and a top-10 player as recently as February 2018 – has had a tumultuous couple of years. He slid as low as no.69 in August last year before hauling himself to a year-end ranking of world no.27.
The Spaniard’s career-best season of three years ago will be very difficult to replicate. He reached the aforementioned US Open semis – his best Grand Slam result to date – and also made the French Open quarterfinals and the Indian Wells semifinals. On top of that, he also won a title in Estoril.
Carreno Busta returned to the top-30 after a decent run of form towards the end of last season in which he captured his fourth career title in Chengdu and also made the semifinal in Stockholm.
In 2020, he is 9-6 so far, reaching the quarterfinals in Adelaide and the semifinals in Rotterdam in what has been a slightly better start to the season as compared to last year.
The 29-year-old has recorded two contrasting results in the two matches he has played in New York. He survived a big scare in his opener against Japan’s Yasutaka Uchiyama, coming from a 2-1 sets deficit to win in five, and then breezed past Mitchell Krueger for the loss of only five games.

Berankis Eyeing Revenge
After four unsuccessful tries, fifth time was a charm for Ricardas Berankis who served an upset against home favorite Steve Johnson to reach his maiden US Open third round. The Lithuanian served and returned solidly against the American Johnson, who a couple of days ago did not lose his serve in a five-set win over John Isner.
The unseeded Lithuanian could potentially find himself in another tussle against world no.1 Novak Djokovic in the fourth round should he navigate his way past Carreno Busta on Friday. Berankis played admirably well against Djokovic at the Western & Southern Open, and he seems to have translated that form to Flushing Meadows.
Berankis, a former junior world no.1, was the hottest player on the Challenger circuit last year. He won a tour-leading four titles on that level. finishing the year ranked no.66 in the world. He has since moved up a spot, but is 15 places down from his career-high ranking of world no.50 achieved in 2016.
Carreno Busta v Ricardas Berankis Prediction & Tip
I think this match is on Carreno Busta’s racquet, a player who is a very consistent baseliner. But it would be foolish to ignore Berankis’ fighting qualities of extending this contest to five sets.
Tip: Five sets in the match: 11/4 (bet365)
