Denis Shapovalov v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

The 21-year-old Shapovalov is 2-0 over the 22-year-old American, having won at Delray Beach in 2018 and at the Davis Cup Finals in 2019.

Shapovalov Survives Kwon Test

Canada’s Denis Shapovalov needed three hours and 42 minutes to defeat Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, in the second round of the U.S. Open on Wednesday.

Having beaten World No. 205 Sebastian Korda in a tricky four-set first-round contest, the 21-year-old knew that Kwon, who reached five quarterfinals this year, won’t be easy, and the Korean looked determined to cause an upset on Wednesday, as he took the first set tie-breaker.

Shapovalov levelled the contest at one-set apiece, but Kwon raced to a 4-2 lead in the third, needing the World No. 17 to fight his way back into the set.

Playing aggressively against the determined 22-year-old, Shapovalov hit 62 winners against the Korean’s 19 in the match. The Canadian also hit 20 aces against the 2 by the World No. 73.

Reaching the third round for the fourth time in four years, Shapovalov will now be aiming to match his best-ever performance at Flushing Meadows. A finalist at the Paris Masters last year, Shapovalov had made it to the fourth round of the U.S. Open on debut in 2017.

But standing between him and a Round of 16 berth will be another next generation star, who has been in good form in this year’s competition.

Fritz Breezes Past Simon

No. 19 seed Taylor Fritz stormed into the third round of the U.S. Open after beating former World No. 6 Gilles Simon 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 in a two-hour contest on Wednesday.

The American, who needed four sets to beat Germany’s Dominik Koepfer in the first round on Monday, hit 16 aces and 43 winners against the 35-year-old Frenchman on Wednesday.

Runner up at the Mexican Open earlier this year, Fritz won 5 break points and a total of 95 points against Simon, but made 32 unforced errors in the match.

The 2015 U.S. Open boys’ singles champion, Fritz is in the third round of a Grand Slam for the fourth time and would be determined to make a fourth round debut this year.

Shapovalov v Fritz Prediction & Tip

It is difficult to predict this one, but Shapovalov will come in with a psychological edge, having won both their previous contests and could well make it 3-0 with another four-set win in the tournament.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in four sets: 10/3 (bet365)
