Martic Looking at Best Ever Showing at the US Open

The 29-year-old Croatian has been in sparkling form since the season resumed. She reached the semi-finals at Palermo and the round of 16 at the Prague Open.

This week in New York she has looked flawless in her performance as she has won all three of her matches quite comfortably. She did take three sets to get past Tereza Martincova in the first round but her tennis has been impressive and improving.

With these three wins, Martic has already equalled her best ever run at the event. In the previous 10 occasions that she took part in the US Open, her best run was last year when she reached the round of 16. One more win will see her achieve her best ever run at Flushing Meadows and also see her achieve her career-best ranking.

Martic has been one of the most consistent players over the last two seasons on the tour. Her win-loss record from the start of the 2018 season is impressive at 82-46. And she has also won two titles along the way.

She would be hoping to continue her run as she is the highest seed left in her side of the draw till the semi-finals where she will potentially play Naomi Osaka.

Putintseva Needs a Tough Win over Sasnovich

After a relatively straightforward start to the campaign, the 25-year-old player from Kazakhstan was up against surprise package of this side of the draw, Sasnovich in the third roun. The Belarusian had beaten last year’s French Open semi-finalist Marketa Vondrousova in her previous match but Putintseva held her nerves despite going a set behind to progress to the round of 16.

Consistency has been the key to the Kazakh’s game this season.

Apart from Saint Petersburg WTA, the 25-year-old has won at least one match in every single tournament she has played in this season. Her best showing was in the season-opening event in Brisbane where she started off as a qualifier. She ended up reaching the round of 16 whilst beating Donna Vekic in the first round.

With three wins, Putintseva has already surpassed her best-ever showing at the US Open. And she too just like her opponent can achieve her best ever ranking with one more win and break into the top 25 for the first time in her career.

Petra Martic v Yulia Putintseva Prediction & Tip

This is likely to be a close contest. Both the players are in good form and have played some impressive tennis this week. Putintseva did Martic a favour by taking out Vondrousova from the draw but now she poses a real threat to the Croat herself.

The match will go the distance but Martic’s form and ability to play under pressure should see her through.

Tip: Martic to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
