Diego Schwartzman v John Millman Head to Head
This is the second meeting between both players. They met at the 2016 Australian Open where Millman was down two sets to love, and was making a comeback before the Argentine retired in the fourth set with an injury.

Post Covid-19 Return Not Optimal For Schwartzman
Consistent and gritty Diego Schwartzman has not had the best of returns to the season since the Covid hiatus. His stint on the US hard courts were disappointing, losing in the second round at the Western & Southern Open to big serving Reilly Opelka and then following it with a shocking five set loss in the US Opener to Cameron Norrie.
Schwartzman would have been looking to the early clay season as an opportunity to gradually get back into rhythm on his favorite surface, in time for the French Open. Long early matches followed by a quarter-final loss at Kitzbuhel last week to Laslo Djere was not the ideal return to clay and he will be hoping for a better run this week in Rome.
A match-up against Millman is not the easiest start to a tournament and the Argentine will be well aware of that going into this Rome opener.

Consistent Millman Never An Easy Opponent
John Millman, though yet to win an ATP tournament has been a consistent performer on the tour. With the hard courts being his preferred surface, he has the game and the perseverance to stick it out on clay and has done so many a time.
The Aussie began his year playing for Australia in the ATP Cup, and then equalled his best ever showing at his home Grand Slam by getting to the third round before losing to Roger Federer squandering many opportunities to close the match himself. First round defeats in Delray Beach and Acapulco followed before the pandemic break.
Since the return of the tour, he reached the second round of the Western & Southern Open before losing to John Isner, and reached the same stage in New York, beaten by Frances Tiafoe in five sets. He had an impressive first round win at the US Open defeating seeded Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets.
His return to the clay was not particularly satisfying as he was beaten by compatriot Jordan Thompson in the first round in Kitzbuhel last week. However, he looked more assertive in his opener here against Joao Souza in a tight match and will hope to improve his run hereon.
Schwartzman v Millman Prediction and Tip
This should make for an interesting contest as both players have the ability to grind out a battle. However, the Argentine is a natural clay courter and will be able to stick out Millman’s long rallies better than most.
Assuming Schwartzman is able to rub off the disappointment from the US Open sooner rather than later, expect him to win a tight battle and prevail.
Tip: Schwartzman to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
