Victoria Azarenka v Garbine Muguruza Head to Head
The pair have met three times so far on the tour with the Belarusian leading the tally at 2-1.
Their first meeting was back in 2016 at the Miami Open which Azarenka won in straight sets. In 2019 they met again at Monterrey and this time it was the Spaniard who prevailed as Azarenka had to retire in the second set.
Their third and last meeting was in Rome last year where it was Muguruza who retired in the second set allowing Azarenka to progress to the quarter-finals.

Azarenka Looking Unstoppable This Week
After the heartbreaking loss last week at the US Open final, Azarenka has bounced back in style. She won her opening round match against Venus Williams, and then put the third seed American Sofia Kenin to the sword.
Azarenka won her second-round match without dropping a single game, double-bagelling her opponent, the Australian Open winner no less. In her round of 16 match, her opponent Darya Kasatkina had to retire in the first set when she hurt her ankle while chasing a shot.
And as if to show it wasn’t just about her on-court performances alone, Azarenka also showed great spirit by rushing to get her opponent an ice pack. She was also seen consoling Kasatkina who was in tears soon after, later helping pack her opponent’s bag and get off the court in a remarkable scene.
With that win, Azarenka has now won 15 of her last 16 matches. A run that started in Cincinnati where she won before getting to the finals of at the Flushing Meadows. And in current form, she is one of the favourites to lift the title once again break into the top 10.

Muguruza Slowly Getting Back to Her Best
The US Open was the first tournament after the pandemic break for the 26-year-old Spaniard. And she looked short of match fitness and rhythm in New York before crashing out in the second round. But this week she has shown signs that she is getting back to her best.
She started the week with a crushing straight-set win over Sloane Stephens. Next up she was up against Cori Gauff and it took Muguruza three sets to get past the teenager. But arguably her best performance came against Johanna Konta in the third round.
The only thing missing from world number 17’s season has been a title. Just like her opponent she also lost a Grand Slam final this year when she was beaten by Sofia Kenin earlier this year in Melbourne. Apart from that, she has reached three quarter-finals at Hobart, Doha and Dubai as well as a semi-final at Shenzhen at the start of the year.
Victoria Azarenka v Garbine Muguruza Prediction & Tip
Even though Muguruza is getting back to her best, Azarenka starts this match as the favourite. Her form and record in the last month have been near perfect and it should be another win for her.
Tip: Azarenka to win: 8/11 (bet365)
