Who is playing?
Romania’s world number two Simona Halep will look to extend her winning run to 14 matches overall and nine on clay when she takes on Karolina Pliskova, the fourth-ranked player in the world. Halep last lost a match in the semifinals of the Australian Open to Garbine Muguruza but avenged that defeat by edging past her in the semifinal here.
Pliskova, on the other hand, had come into the Italian Open with some dodgy form but has displayed immense grittiness to get past the likes of Elise Mertens and Marketa Vondrousova to make it to the final.
In the men’s singles final, Djokovic notched up four more wins to his tally in reaching the final here in Rome. While those wins did not always good as smooth as it usually is for Djokovic, the Australian Open winner kept finding ways of fighting back and winning matches.
He will play Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman who prevented the mouth-watering Djokovic-Nadal final by beating the Spaniard in straight sets. He then edged out Denis Shapovalov in a third set tie-breaker to set up this meeting with the Serb – an opponent whom he has never beaten in four previous meetings.
When will the Italian Open 2020 Singles Final be played?
In the first match of the day, Halep will take on Pliskova in the women’s singles final on Monday, September 21 and the match will begin at around 2.30 pm local time, which is 1.30 pm BST (or 8.30 am Eastern).
This will be followed by the men’s singles final between Djokovic and Schwartzman which is expected to not start before 5 pm local time. This amounts to 4 pm BST and 11 am Eastern.
Are there any other matches on the day?
No, the singles finals are the only two matches to be played on the day with both, the men’s and women’s doubles final already played on Sunday.
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos won the men’s doubles final by beating the French pair of Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin while the women’s doubles final was won by Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strycova who overcame Anna-Lena Friedsam and Raluca Olaru in the final.

What are the bookmakers saying?
It’s an easy call for the bookmakers for the men’s singles final, with Djokovic a huge favourite at 1/6. He has lost just one match all year and that came via a default, and while he hasn’t looked at his best, Djokovic looks like the man to beat. Schwartzman could win a set (6/4 with bet365) but tough to see him win the encounter.
The other match could be a lot closer, with Pliskova having the game to test Halep. While Halep is the in-form player and starts off a heavy favourite too (8/15), Pliskova will believe she can take on the Romanian in her own game. A three-setter looks likely (6/4).
