Cristian Garin v Philipp Kohlschreiber Head to Head
These two players have never met before this.

Garin’s Knee Cause For Concern
Cristian Garin played in yet another productive clay-court tournament this week. The Chilean, already a winner in Germany previously at the BMW Open in Munich, made the semifinals in Hamburg before he was beaten in three sets by Stefanos Tsitsipas.
That defeat ended his impressive 100% record in tour-level semifinals, where each time he went on to win the title.
The 24-year-old is a man built to withstand the grueling demands of clay tennis, having captured all four of his career titles on the surface. And remarkably, Garin’s accolades at the Challenger level and ITF events do not include any non-clay trophies.
It will be intriguing to see how he will fare at the French Open on his second year playing in the main draw. He is more matured than at last year’s event where after garnering a fine win over Reilly Opelka, he was brought down to earth by Stan Wawrinka in the second round by a handy score 6-1 6-4 6-0.
Garin’s participation in the next few days will be extremely interesting considering he took a medical timeout midway through the third set against Tsitsipas in Hamburg for what appeared to be a knee injury.

Kohlschreiber Playing in His 16th Main Draw at Roland Garros
Philipp Kohlschreiber’s longevity is something to behold. The German veteran will be making his 16th straight main draw appearance at the French Open, however, his record down the years has been average to say the least.
Only on two occasions had he made the second week, and one those included a straight sets win over Novak Djokovic in the third round in 2009.
Kohlschreiber though has excelled outside the slams by winning eight career titles. Six of them came on clay, the last of which was in 2017 in Kitzbuhel.
The 36-year-old began his 2020 campaign at the Canberra Challenger where he would win his fourth title at that level, but he pulled out of his scheduled second round match at the Australian Open due to an abdominal strain.
He hasn’t been able to string two successive wins ever since, losing early in both Rotterdam and Dubai before the tennis shutdown.
Kohlschreiber, now ranked at no.85 in the ATP Rankings has been handed some tough draws at tour-level tournaments and it is no surprise to see him chasing his first match-win post-lockdown. Could it come in Paris in what would surely rank as the upset of the day?
Garin v Kohlschreiber Prediction and Tip
Garin is an absolute machine on clay. If his knee holds up and assuming it is nothing to cause panic, he should beat Kohlschreiber with ease.
But backing the Chilean on such short odds and on assumption his knee is okay, is not the smartest choice. Kohlschreiber’s experience and craftiness can cause plenty havoc and he is good value to make this very tough opener for the Chilean.
Tip: Kohlschreiber to win a set: 4/6 (bet365)
