World number eight Kiki Bertens will face Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova in the third round of the 2020 French Open on Friday, October 2. Kiki Bertens v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head
Two previous meetings between these two players have been split at one apiece with Siniakova winning their first encounter on the hard court of Beijing in 2018 while Bertens avenging that defeat with a win at the Madrid Open in 2019.

Things got slightly ugly in Bertens’ second round over Sara Errani as the drama-filled encounter spilled over to the media interactions. At least it did when Errani spoke to the media!
The match had all the makings of a thriller as the two players levelled at one set apiece and then began losing their serves in a heap. With no tie-breaker to separate players in the final sets at Roland-Garros, Errani had five chances to hold including two chances to serve out the match after breaking Bertens but failed to do so each time.
When Bertens finally managed to hold her own serve to make it 8-7, it was Errani’s turn to crack under pressure, as she faced three break-points in that game before losing her serve and the match off the fourth.
The drama didn’t end there because Bertens slumped on the court after the win and suffered full body cramps, having to be wheeled away by the organisers. That, however, did not go down well with Errani who later claimed Bertens was acting more than necessary. Earlier, Errani was also heard muttering expletives according to reports.
Not that it matters too much to Bertens, who will now look to make it to the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the second time this year after having done the same at the Australian Open.

Siniakova Stuns Pavlyuchenkova
Let’s be honest, we expected Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to show no mercy and go through to the third round with a lot of ease. There was ease in going through alright but it was her opponent Siniakova who did that, winning 6-3, 6-4 to set up a meeting with Bertens.
Earlier Siniakova had wasted no time getting past Lauren Davis as well, winning 7-6, 6-2 in the first round.
Siniakova’s form stems from her recent showing at Strasbourg, where she got past Bernarda Pera and Ekaterina Alexandrova before falling to Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals.
She would have also taken a lot of confidence from her performance at the French Open last season when she made it to the fourth round here. Siniakova had stalled Naomi Osaka, becoming the first player to beat her at Grand Slams since the 2018 Wimbledon, having earlier also defeated Elena Rybakina and Maria Sakkari to get to that stage.
While Pavyluchenkova doesn’t quite belong to the same tennis pedigree of the aforementioned names, this win against her would have been a huge shot in the arm for Siniakova. Would that be enough though?
Bertens v Siniakova Prediction and Tip
Bertens has made the third round here but let’s not forget she had been struggling before this tournament and that one thinks is reflected in the odds – she is the second-favourite here at 6/4. We could see a keen tussle here, with the match going to the third set.
