Italy’s teen sensation Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run at Roland Garros as he knocked out French qualifier Benjamin Bonzi in straight sets on Wednesday.
Sinner, who had upset 11th seed David Goffin in the first round on Sunday, needed an hour and 55 minutes to win his second round match 6-2, 6-4, 6-4.
In the main draw of the French Open for the first time in his career, Sinner had on Sunday taken an hour and 59 minutes to defeat Goffin 7-5, 6-0, 6-3. It was the 19-year-old’s second career win over the Belgian, ranked 13th in the world.
Against Bonzi, Sinner converted 6 of 13 break points, struck 28 winners, made 28 unforced errors and won a total of 100 points. The numbers were quite similar to the ones on Sunday, when he converted 7 of 11 break points, struck 23 winners and made 27 unforced errors.
The 6’2” right-hander, who turned pro two years ago, has had a decent year so far, having reached the quarterfinals in Rotterdam and having beaten Benoit Paire and Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Italian Open, a pre-cursor to the Paris major. Grigor Dimitrov halted his run in a come-from-behind Round of 16 win in Italy.
This is Sinner’s best-ever Grand Slam showing. He reached the second round of the Australian Open earlier this year before being beaten by Marton Fucsovics.

Coria Sends Paire Packing
Having notched his first main draw win at the French Open on Sunday, Argentina’s Federico Coria got his second win on Wednesday when he knocked out 23rd seed Benoit Paire of France in the second round at Roland Garros.
Coria needed 2 hours and 30 minutes to win the contest 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Against Jason Jung on Sunday, Coria had won without dropping a set but he was made to work hard by the lucky loser, before he finally clinched the match in 3 hours and 19 minutes.
One of the features of Coria’s win over Paire was his 100% break point conversion rate, as he won all of his 8 break points. In contrast, Paire converted just 33%, winning 5 of 15 break points.
Coria also made just 18 unforced errors in the match compared to the 79 made by Paire.
The 28-year-old Federico, brother of former French Open finalist and World No. 3 Guillermo Coria, has one Challenger and nine Future title, all of which have come on clay.
The right-handed Argentine, who had also defeated Jung in the first round of the U.S. Open a few weeks ago, has looked good in Paris so far and will take huge confidence into the Round of 32 after having taken out a seeded player from the competition.
Sinner v Coria Prediction and Tip
Tough to call this one, but given how Sinner has dominated the first two rounds and how Coria had to work hard for his wins, the Italian seems to have a slight edge. Expect him to win in four.
