Marton Fucsovics v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head
This will be the second match between these two players with Fucsovics having won their only previous outing which also came on clay. It was last year in Munich and Fucsovics had needed three sets to squeak past Monteiro and make it to the quarterfinals.

It was a slow start for Fucsovics in his second round match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas as he fell behind 1-4 with a service break down. Soon after the Hungarian got some of his momentum back as he broke the Spaniard back to level things out at 4-4 and push the set into the tie-breaker.
Even there Fucsovics had to overturn an early mini-break before rattling off seven points in a row and pluck the set from behind.
The second set went more on the lines how Fusocvics would have liked, as both players held serve till 4-3 when the Hungarian managed the sole break of the set to serve it out the next.
Ramos-Vinolas had a chance at pulling back at the deficit slightly when he made it to serving for the set at 5-3 in the third but Fucsovics didn’t let go. He broke back, and then doubled that tally before serving it out in the 12th game of the set to complete the win.
Earlier, Fucsovics had shocked Daniil Medvedev in round one and if one thought that was a flash in the pan and that the win would make it tougher for him come an easier opponent, a straight-set victory against Ramos-Vinolas was a suitable answer.

Monteiro Yet to Drop a Set
Monteiro’s best performance at a Grand Slam was the second round appearances at the French Open and Wimbledon of 2017 but since then he had never won a main draw match at a Grand Slam. This time around, the 26-year-old Monteiro seems to have taken advantage of the later edition of the French Open to pluck a couple of wins in the competition and make it to the third round for the first ever time.
And it’s been some brilliant tennis. Not often would you have a player ranked outside the top 80 win his first two rounds at a Grand Slam and both in straight sets.
That’s what Monteiro has done so far.
It started with the prized scalp of Nikoloz Basilashvili, who was ranked 16th as recently as the previous season, before Monteiro managed 7-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Marcos Giron in the second.
In a match lasting just about two hours, Monteiro faced just three break-points and was broken only once in the entire match, after he got 79% of his first serves in and won 84% of the points off them.
Fucsovics v Monteiro Prediction and Tip
While Fucsovics will fancy himself a fourth round berth here, Monteiro’s preference for clay has already seen him make the semifinal at the Ecuadorian Open and five other quarterfinals at some of the other South American swing competitions in his career. Could be at least four sets in this one.
