Garbine Muguruza v Danielle Collins Head to Head
This will be their second meeting with Muguruza having beaten Collins in a tough three-setter in their first which came at the Rome Open in 2019.

Muguruza Comes Back into Her Own
After nearly getting dumped out of the competition in round one, Muguruza found the kind of form she needs to travel the distance in this tournament. In her second round match against Kristyna Pliskova, Muguruza registered a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Later Muguruza said it was an important win given Pliskova was the first southpaw she was playing in the year and that could have gotten tricky, especially because Kristyna’s form has been steady in more recent times.
And it didn’t begin the way Muguruza wanted either, when she fell behind a break early in the first set. Not to be outdone, the Spaniard broke right back and then went on a game-winning spree before serving the first out at 5-3.
While Pliskova tried to remain in the contest with some gritty play, Muguruza kept getting close to getting that break and she finally did it in the fifth game of the second set. That was the breakthrough she needed as she reeled off five games in a row to complete the facile win.
The straightforward nature of the win assumes importance for Muguruza who had earlier needed 18 games in the final set of her first round match against Tamara Zidansek to come through to the second round.

Collins Takes Out Clara
While Collins did not have to struggle too much in her first round win over Monica Niculesca, she did have to come back from behind to carve out a victory. Not unlike Muguruza therefore, she would be relieved with a straight-set win over Denmark’s teenage sensation Clara Tauson.
Collins won 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 10 minutes to make it to the third round at Roland-Garros for the first time, having earlier finished a semifinalist at the Australian Open last year as her best performance.
Carving out six break-points in the match, Collins outdid her second round opponent on both, the winners (26 to 17) and unforced errors count (10 to 22) and that’s where she managed to forge ahead. Things would get that much more difficult come round three against a former winner but Collins has shown she can compete on clay in this tournament.
In fact, when asked about her clash with Muguruza, the Spaniard recollected her to be an aggressive player, something she would beware of coming into the match on this surface. The good news for Muguruza would be the slow nature of the courts could take some of her opponent’s sting out, which could force Collins into re-thinking her tactics.
Muguruza v Collins Prediction and Tip
Muguruza is 1/4 to win, 4/6 to do that in straight sets and while we think both those sound like realistic results, we are more interested in the games market.
Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 4/5 (bet365)
