Fiona Ferro v Patricia Maria Tig Head to Head

Ferro and Maria Tig haven’t played each other before this.

Ferro Dumps Out Rybakina

Ferro had respectfully given Elena Rybakina her due before this match but said her strategy would be to take advantage of her opponent’s weakness, her reduced movements on court. And in a match lasting two hours and three minutes, she seemed to have done just that, ended up beating Rybakina in three sets.

Where the French 23-year-old also seemed to have taken a toll on her in-form Kazakh opponent was her second serve. Rybakina has a strong first serve, and she won a few more points on that than Ferro did on her own first serve but that difference was more than compensated by Ferro attacking Rybakina’s second serve, allowing her just 11 points on it as compared to her own 21 points.

The win for Ferro follows her first round victory over Heather Watson in straight sets, but what’s interesting to note here is the Frenchwoman is now the only unbeaten player other than Simona Halep since the pandemic break ended.

She had played in only one tournament before this, winning the Palermo Open on clay and then was away because of a fitness issue. Now, with Ferro fit and back on the court, she has won a couple of more matches to make it 7-0.

Maria Tig on a Seven-Match Winning Streak Too

That’s a strange coincidence here. While Ferro has played only seven matches since the pandemic break ended and won them all, Tig has participated in a few more tournaments but comes into the French Open on the back of an Istanbul Cup victory.

Having missed the Italian Open and Strasbourg Open on either side of that, it means that by winning the first two rounds here, Tig has also won seven in a row – much like her opponent.

Unlike her opponent though, Maria Tig did not have to break into much of a sweat in her opening two round. After a slight stretch in the opening round where she defeated Stefanie Voegele 7-5, 7-5 Maria Tig saw to the end of Christina McHale in the second round, beating her 6-4, 6-3 to reach round three.

And for someone, who till the beginning of the season hadn’t even won one main draw at Grand Slams, Tig has already reached the second round at the Australian Open and now a third round here. Can this dream run continue?

Ferro v Maria Tig Prediction and Tip

One of these players will make it eight wins in a row and we strongly suspect Ferro’s the tactically better player at the moment. It remains to be seen if her body can hold up following all those weeks of being away but backing her to win this.

Tip: Ferro to win: 1/2 (bet365)
