World number eight Kiki Bertens will clash with the 159th-ranked Martina Trevisan in the fourth round of the 2020 French Open with the match scheduled for Sunday, October 4. Kiki Bertens v Martina Trevisan Head to Head
This will be the second time that Bertens and Trevisan will be facing off in a competitive encounter with their first having come at the Charleston Open last year. Bertens had won that 6-2, 6-1 to proceed to the quarterfinal.

Two tournaments played, two defeats endured without a win registered. That was Bertens’ record on clay this season coming into the French Open. Those losses had come in September itself, leaving her Roland-Garros campaign in bit of a shambles.
A win in the first round over Katarina Zavatska would have been a soothing relief, even if on expected lines but the match against Sara Errani is the one which would have given her a lot of confidence. Fought bitterly, with Errani reacting angrily to Bertens’ fitness issues as well, the Dutchwoman came through in three sets and more than three hours to reach the third round.
Bertens cramped badly during the match and had to wheeled off at the end but she looked to have recovered brilliantly and clinched her third round win over Katerina Siniakova with some ease.
The match didn’t even last an hour and while she was aided by Siniakova’s poor first serve (got only 57% of her serves in and won just 43% of those points), and 26 unforced errors, the win would be a shot in the arm for Bertens who would have wanted a quicker victory following that humdinger of a previous round.
Against Trevisan, Bertens would be confident having played her before and knowing what to expect, with a second French Open quarterfinal as prize.

Trevisan Turns Around a Career
A career-high ranking of 144th in the world, no Grand Slam main draw appearances between 2009, when she first featured in a qualifier at the Italian Open and 2019. And as a young, talented player expected to make a breakthrough on the circuit, she suffered from an eating disorder which kept her away from the sport for nearly five years.
Returning back to the Grand Slams in 2017, she went through nine of the majors where Trevisan managed to make it through to the final round of the qualifiers on just two occasions. And then finally in 2020 came a breakthrough as she reached the first round at the Australian Open.
While that could certainly be termed as a success given all that had gone around before that, Trevisan continued to struggle to win main draw matches on the tour, progressing through the qualifiers got very difficult and her only first round win came at the Prague Open (not to be confused with WTA Prague), a Challenger-level tournament on the women’s circuit.
A qualifying loss at Rome added to her misery, so when she did get through to the main draw at the French Open, her second Grand Slam main draw appearance, it was her second piece of success for the season.
A first round shock win over Camila Giorgi, a fellow Italian, would have been down to her opponent’s fitness worries but again, it was her first in a major main draw. Success!
And then it came in leaps and bounds. The second round win over Cori Gauff was one of the upsets of the tournament given she not only had to come back from a set down but also did that against one of the most talented players on tour.
More recently she defeated the 20th seeded Maria Sakkari in round three, again from a set down. This time around, she also faced a couple of match-points in the second set, won it in a tie-breaker and then cruised through in the third 6-3 to carve out a place in round four.
A heart-warming story but can she now go further? Given her momentum and form, she would know Bertens is not unbeatable.
Bertens v Trevisan Prediction and Tip
Bertens is 2/7 to win this while Trevisan starts off at 11/4 but at this stage there’s not much of a difference between them. Trevisan has played a couple of three-setters already though so that might be a factor for someone not used to playing deep in tournaments and matches as long as these.
