After a great end to the 2019 tennis season, 2020 did not start too well for Tsitsipas. However, come February he hit a good run, defending his title at Marseille without dropping a set and made the final in Dubai again before being runner-up, this time to Novak Djokovic.
After the Covid-19 hiatus, he had a mixed time on the US hard courts, and did not have the best of returns to clay. It started with a three set opening round loss at the Rome Masters 1000 against Italian teenager Jannik Sinner, but he hit form soon enough and was a finalist last week at the Hamburg Open losing to Andrey Rublev
The travel between tournaments seemed to have got the better of Tsitsipas, who arrived in Paris and looked out of sorts in his opener against Jaume Munar of Spain. A quick first two sets saw Tsitsipas one set away from an early exit and he also seemed to be suffering from tiredness and/or the niggles with medical timeouts. However, a great fightback by the Greek who went on to prevail in five sets.
This set up a second round against Uruguayan veteran Pablo Cuevas, who had been beaten by Tsitsipas in straight sets at Hamburg, but is a veteran on the clay and not someone to be taken lightly. However, it was a disciplined performance by the Greek again as he prevailed 6-1,6-4,6-2 in an hour and 28 minutes. It was not the cleanest of performances, but it was a more routine win with control on the errors and ensuring that he consolidated on any and all openings.
Going into the third round against Aljaz Benede, the Greek started as a strong favorite and won the first two sets convincingly before Bedene ran into some fitness struggles and after two medical timeouts, pulled out with an injury. Tsitsipas is back in the fourth round, just like last time where he lost the match of the tournament to Stan Wawrinka. With Dimitrov and Rublev in his quarter, the going only gets tougher here on for the Greek prodigy.

Dimitrov Having A Good Clay Swing
After being off color and out of form and having a difficult Covid-19 recovery, Grigor Dimitrov has quietly had a fair run on the clay this time around. The Bulgarian over these last three years made it to the third round here at Roland-Garros, losing to Pablo Carreno Busta, Fernanda Verdasco and Stan Wawrinka each time and is now in the fourth round at Roland Garros for the first time.
His good run on clay began by being a quarter-finalist at the Rome Masters, only the second time he reached that far at Masters 1000 on clay. And in this tournament itself, Dimitrov defeated Gregoire Barrere and Andrej Martin, both of which were straight-set victories as well, setting himself up for a third round against a player ranked outside of the top 100, Roberto Carbellas Baena. The Bulgarian was off to another good start, striking the ball well from the baseline and up by two sets before incidentally his opponent as well ran into fitness struggles and had to pull out midway through the third set.
Dimitrov has looked confident and composed and struck a good balance of winners vs errors and will be confident of his chances against Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip
Two strong and gorgeous single handed backhands come face to face for what maybe one of the highlights of the fourth round. Both players depend on momentum and will be looking to get that early. It will come down to whose better on the day, but it should be a fun match for a spectator. Expect Tsitsipas, who is currently a more established player to pull through in four tight sets.
