Novak Djokovic v Pablo Carreno Busta Head to Head
This is the fourth meeting between both players. Djokovic won their first three meetings, twice at the Monte Carlo Masters and then at the Shanghai Masters in 2019. This brought us to the fourth round encounter at this year’s US Open, where Djokovic had the infamous disqualification where he accidentally hit a lines-woman when hitting a ball away, late in a tight first set.

World number one Novak Djokovic dominated the 2020 tennis season going into the Covid-19 hiatus and remained unbeaten. Coming back on the tour at the Western & Southern Open, there were a few hiccups and close matches against Daniil Medvedev and Roberto Bautista Agut, but the outcome was the same; Djokovic remaining unbeaten and another title in the bag.
Despite the unfortunate US Open incident alluded to above, the return to clay was strong and the Rome Masters was Djokovic’s for the taking, taking the lead in the Masters 1000 all-time tally.
The French Open has looked no different and opponents like Mikael Ymer, Ricardas Berankis and Colombian Galan were disposed of winning no more than five games each in what sometimes looked like slightly intense hitting sessions. Djokovic was up against Next Gen Russian Karen Khachanov in the round of 16, someone who has beaten him before and one wondered if this was a challenge in the waiting.
If winning twice the number of games anyone won against the world number one thus far this tournament is an achievement, Khachanov did well, but otherwise not much was different. Straight sets, convincing shot-making, breaking serve at will and no answer to most of what the Serb sent across the nut seems to be the routine.
With a 35-1 record for the year, Djokovic is in another quarter-final and three wins from becoming the first man to win all majors twice each in the Open era, and maybe even ending the Rafa Nadal reign in Paris.

Impressive Month for Carreno Busta
Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta, has shown constant improvement in his game over the last few seasons. The 29-year-old Spaniard has not only won four ATP singles titles , but has made his presence felt in Grand Slams as well, reaching the semifinals of the US Open in 2017 and 2020 and now in his second French Open quarter finals.
The 17th seed entered the 2020 French Open on the back of a strong U.S. Open showing, where he reached the final four before being edged out by Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller.
It was not the easiest of draws for the US Open semi-finalist, whose only clay experience this season was a straight set loss to Rafael Nadal in the opener at Rome. The Spaniard had difficult openers in John Millman and Guido Pella, both tricky opponents and neither who goes away without a dogged fight. But, Carreno Busta carried forward his US Open form to Paris, as he put up clinical displays against both, making use of the slower conditions with his excellent flat groundstrokes.
Up against another gritty Spaniard in Roberto Bautista Agut, Carreno Busta put up a clinical performance taking the first two sets in no time, and despite an Agut fightback winning the third set, and up a break in fourth, the US Open semi-finalist broke back to seal the match in four sets.
A fourth round encounter against 22-year-old Daniel Altmaier from Germany was never going to be an issue with the form Carreno Busta is in, and despite a tight second set, it was a straight sets entry into the final eight for the number 17 seed from Spain.
Djokovic v Carreno Busta Prediction and Tip
Not related to Carreno Busta directly, but a lot is somehow at stake for Djokovic in this encounter, given what transpired not so long ago in New York. Expect the world number one to put up a strong display to negate any spirited fight from the Spaniard. Carreno Busta has had a good last month, but the 2020 slam run ends here.
