Felix Auger-Aliassime v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
This is a very curious rivalry with Nishioka having beaten Auger-Aliassime on all the three occasions they have played. This includes a match at the Challenger level in 2015 and two in recent times – one at the 2019 Indian Wells Masters third round and the second at the French Open recently.
Auger-Aliassime will not just be looking for revenge but for a crushing defeat to put to bed this strange losing streak.

Auger-Aliassime Grinds Past Gerasimov
After he was bumped up directly to the second round, Auger-Aliassime looked to have drawn a fairly straightforward opening opponent in the form of Egor Gerasimov. The bookmakers thought so too as they had Auger-Aliassime tipped at 1/4 to win that second round encounter.
And while Auger-Aliassime did win in the end, it didn’t quite turn out to be as easy as what those odds had suggested.
An early break for Gerasimov in the first set took it away from the Canadian and before he knew it, he had been broken in the 11th game of the second set as well. Gerasimov only needed to serve it out but Auger-Aliassime mustered up all his grit and broke his opponent for the first time in the match.
Dragging the set into a tie-breaker, Auger-Aliassime raced off to a 5-0 lead before completing the comeback.
The third set went to serve till the fourth game, before Auger-Aliassime found himself a break ahead by the game seven. It was then his chance to serve it out and even had three match-points but missed out. A second successive tie-breaker followed where Auger-Aliassime finally managed to carve out a win, in turn scraping his way through to the quarterfinal.

Nishioka Stuffs out Struff’s Hopes
When Japan’s Nishioka had breezed past Kyle Edmund 6-4, 6-0, many fans had pointed out the latter’s lack of form as the reason behind the loss. However, Nishioka’s fighting and at times, attractive, tennis has now laid another opponent low and this time it wasn’t one who was going through a very bad patch of form either.
Nishioka defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in three sets, coming back from being a set down to win a final set tie-breaker and march into just his second quarterfinal at an ATP tournament this year. His first such showing came at the Delray Beach Open in February.
Down a set, it seemed like Nishioka was on his way out when he broke Struff in the fourth game of the second set. And while Struff broke back to bring things back on serve, Nishioka forced his opponent to drop serve for the second time before serving it out to level the match.
The Japanese player then broke Struff early in the third set again, before his opponent levelled things out, and both then held serve to take the match into a final set tie-breaker. It turned out to be a hard-fought tie-breaker for the most part, but at 4-3 Nishioka garnered a decisive mini-break following which he completed the turnaround win 7-3 in the tie-breaker.
Can he repeat this showing against the previous week’s finalist here?
Auger-Aliassime v Nishioka Prediction and Tip
On paper it’s one-sided but Nishioka isn’t an opponent to be trifled with and we reckon he has a good chance of pushing Auger-Aliassime in this one.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
