Novak Djokovic v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head
This will be the third official ATP meeting on the tour between the two players. While Djokovic retired in their encounter in Belgrade in 2010, he won a few weeks ago in two-well fought sets at the Rome Masters, therefore tying the head-to-head at 1-1. They also met earlier this year at the controversial Adria Tour and Krajinovic prevailed in the exhibition encounter.

However, that was not to be as the King of Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal had other plans and won his 13th French Open title by dispatching Djokovic in straight sets, with the world number one only winning two games in the first two sets.
Djokovic has mentioned that he has his eyes fixed on a few goals, among which are equaling Pete Sampras’ record sixth year-end as world number one (this year) and overtaking Federer’s maximum number of weeks (310) at the helm, sometime next year.
With the altered ranking given the pandemic, where tournaments take the best of 2019 v 2020 points wise, the 2019 Paris Masters 1000 champion Djokovic decided not to play at Bercy with no points to gain or lose, and instead play Vienna (ATP 500) and the Tour Finals in London, to ensure the year-end ranking.
The Serb has been handed a stacked draw, with plenty of top players participating in the tournament and will be hoping to get momentum and rhythm going early, aimed at a deep run here this week.

Can Tricky Krajinovic Prevail Over Compatriot?
Serbian Filip Krajinovic has had an up and down career, largely due to a mix of injuries and inconsistent form. However, his results through his career have impressed intermittently, like the finals of the Masters 1000 at Paris in 2017 among others, and evidenced that he definitely possesses the skills to outdo his track record.
Ranked just outside the top 30, it has been a mixed season for Krajinovic since the return of the tour this August. He looked in good form at the Western & Southern Open making the quarter-finals and defeating Dominic Thiem en route in quick time, dropping only three games. A third round at the US Open followed, but his performance saw a dip during the clay swing.
Up against Novak Djokovic in the third round of the Masters 1000 in Rome, Krajinovic put up a strong display with the first set eventually going to Djokovic 9-7 in the tiebreak, before an evenly fought straight sets win for the world number one.
Krajinovic will be looking to brush aside the disappointments from clay and hoping to put up another good display against Djokovic, on a surface that has favored the lower ranked Serb in the past, most recently the indoor courts at Bercy at the Masters 1000. Although it was an exhibition, Krajinovic will turn to his win on the Adria Tour against the world number one for both belief and strategy ahead of his opener here as well.

Krajinovic definitely has the tools to bother the world number one, but seems like we have a determined Djokovic looking to put behind the US & French Open memories and end the year as strong as he possibly can. Expect a straight sets Djokovic win.
