Daniil Medvedev v Jason Jung Head to Head
This will be the third meeting between Medvedev and Jung with both players having won one apiece. Both their previous matches came at the Challenger circuit, with Jung winning the the first one in the qualifiers and the Medvedev levelling things off – both in 2016.

Following an outstanding 2019, where he won four titles, including two Masters 1000 events in Cincinnati and Shanghai, finished runner-up at the U.S. Open and played in a staggering nine finals, which included a phase where he reached six in a row, Daniil Medvedev was expected to rule in 2020, but he did anything but that.
The Russian started the season well, winning four of his five singles matches at the ATP Cup and then reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, matching his best-ever showing in the Melbourne slam.
It was followed by a first-round exit in Rotterdam, two quarterfinals in Marseille and Cincinnati and a run to the semifinals at the U.S. Open, where he was ousted by eventual champion Dominic Thiem. So overall, it has been a decent year, but very quiet compared to what he did last year.
Can he end the year on a high? Yet to reach a final this year, Medvedev will definitely want to finish the season strongly and would be one of the players to watch in Vienna. He enters the tournament with a 16-9 record in 2020 and will be aiming to add to his even career titles in Austria.

Jung Replaces De Minaur
Jason Jung made it to the main draw of this competition as a lucky loser following the withdrawal of Alex De Minaur, who withdrew from the tournament following his final run in Antwerp last week. The 31-year-old, who has never seen the top 100 in the rankings, has had one good campaign this year but other than that semifinal run at the New York Open, his form has been ragged.
The Taipei player was a qualifier in that tournament in February and then went on a three-match winning spree, which included wins over Kevin Anderson, Cameron Norrie and Reilly Opelka before falling to Andreas Seppi in the last four.
Other than that, Jung’s only wins in main draw of competitions have come at the Challenger level, including the last one he played in Istanbul last week. There he made the quarterfinal, his third such appearance in a tournament and second other than the New York Open.
Here in Vienna, Jung had stunned Kyle Edmund in the first round of the qualifiers before going down to Vasek Pospisil in the second. He now has a chance to take a main draw match to his opponent whose form has been slightly dodgy.
Medvedev v Jung Prediction and Tip
While Medvedev is a favourite here, we think odds of 1/16 are far too short given his recent struggles. He should win this, but we could see a few games in this one.
