Hubert Hurkacz v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
There have been four previous outings between Hurkacz and Sonego and the score is tied at 2-2. Two of those matches came at the highest level on the ATP circuit, while the other two came in the Challengers. It’s 1-1 in each, having met as recently as the Auckland Open earlier this year. That match was won by the 31st-ranked Hurkacz.

Hurkacz Makes it in Straight Sets
The Pole did not have a lot of trouble in the first set of his first round match against Attila Balazs, needing a solitary break of serve in the second game to go on to clinch it. Hurkacz was rarely tested on his serve in the set and completed an easy 6-3 win there.
Things changed drastically in the second as Balazs upped the ante and became more aggressive. Despite losing serve in the very first game, Balazs came back to level it off in the fourth game, dropped serve in the very next game before levelling things off at 4-4 – a total of four breaks of serves shared by Hurkacz and his opponent.
It was finally in the 11th game of the second set the world number 31 got his decisive break of serve, before serving it out to love and pocket the set and the match.
Hurkacz enters this match riding on some confidence, having made it to the quarterfinal two weeks ago in Cologne, having put up a solid fight even in that defeat at the hands of Roberto Bautista Agut.
A win here could book him a place in the quarterfinals against Novak Djokovic.

Sonego Inching into the Top 40
A maiden title winner last year at Antalya looked to have propelled Sonego into the big league and while he hasn’t been as consistent as he would have liked this season, the Italian is currently ranked 42nd in the world, his career-best ranking.
Sonego qualified for this event as a lucky loser, having gone down to Aljaz Bedene in a tough three-setter in the qualifiers but once he made the main draw, his first round opponent Dusan Lajovic proved to be no match for him. The Italian won 6-4, 6-3 to make the second round.
The world number 42, whose best showing this year came at the French Open when he reached the fourth round, doesn’t have the best of records indoors though. He was 2-5 last season and while he won 11 of the 20 matches he played in 2018, the two qualifiers he featured in on tour that year had both resulted in losses.
He now takes on a far more confident opponent and will be hugely second-favourite.
Hurkacz v Sonego Prediction and Tip
At 4/11 Hurkacz isn’t too attractive for the winner’s market, but we could look at the games market or even sets in the match (two).
Tip: Under 22.5 games in the match: 4/5 (bet365)
