Daniil Medvedev v Kevin Anderson Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between Medvedev and the former world number five Anderson.

Medvedev Falters But Wins
After a crushing first round victory over Jason Jung in the first round of the Vienna Open, Medvedev faced Vasek Pospisil in the second round, an opponent who had earlier shocked Felix Auger-Aliassime in his opener. Pospisil is currently ranked 81st in the world, having struggled to notch up any meaningful wins in recent times other than a fourth round appearance at the US Open.
Which is why when Pospisil had a chance to break Medvedev in the fifth game and then finally broke him in the seventh, it would have come as a big surprise. That Pospisil managed to serve out it out to pouch the first set would have brought about some self-doubts for Medvedev, whose performances this year wouldn’t hold a candle to those from the previous season.
Medvedev is made of sterner stuff though and while he missed breaking Pospisil in the sixth game, he managed to do that in the eighth and then served it out to love. This was followed by back to back breaks of serve in the third and the fifth games of the third set that helped him wrap up the match in three sets.
The Russian’s recent performances include a semifinal at the US Open but four other competitions in which he has had a 3-4 win-loss record. A scratchy win here in the second round gives an iota of hope to all his opponents including Anderson who is slowly building back rhythm from having made a comeback to the circuit earlier this season.

Anderson Cruises Past Carreno-Busta
Pablo Carreno-Busta had come into the match as a heavy favourite having been in excellent form – a US Open semifinal and a French Open quarterfinal bearing testimony to this. And when the Spaniard broke Anderson in the very first game of the opening set, things looked like going to script.
Except they didn’t. Anderson got himself five break-points in the sixth game, finally converting one and with Carreno-Busta serving to stay in the match at 5-6, the South Africa broke again to scoop the set.
The second deviated even further from the script with Anderson taking an early 3-0 lead, and then making it 5-1 before serving it out.
Anderson had come into this tournament in Vienna having opted not to play in any of the previous indoor competitions. With four back to back losses under his belt, Anderson had finally shown some form at the French Open where he reached the third round. And with a solid record on hard court surfaces including a 14-5 win-loss in 2018 indoors, Anderson could pose a big threat to an opponent struggling for smooth wins.
Medvedev v Anderson Prediction and Tip
While Anderson is 3/1 to win this, and we think Medvedev is a heavy favourite here anyway, he might not be a pushover here. Anderson could snatch a set here or more.
Tip: Anderson to win a set – Yes: 1/1 (bet365)
