Caruso Hoping for First Win Indoors This Year

Some of Caruso’s best performances this year have come on clay, having reached the Parma Challenger final as recently as last month. Unfortunately on the quicker indoor courts, it’s not looked as rosy for the Italian.

Twice in as many tournaments has Caruso managed to qualify for the main draws of an indoor tournament but on both occasions he has crashed out in his opener.

The first time he played was at the Antwerp Open where he won a couple of rounds of qualifiers only to lose in three sets to Dan Evans. At the Paris Masters which concludes on Sunday, Caruso went down to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round of qualifiers, only to make it to the main draw as a lucky loser.

There wasn’t anything lucky about his opening round encounter against Corentin Moutet as he fell in three sets to the local lad. Can he now win an opening round facing an opponent who, at 27, has never seen the top 250 rankings.

Kuzmanov Known for Futures Exploits

When you are ranked that low as Kuzmanov is in his career, it’s difficult to see him feature in too many ATP level competitions, even qualifiers. And following the team-based competition of the ATP Cup, this is the first time he would play in such a level of tournament.

Kuzmanov comes in with a plethora of experience playing at the Futures level. While he hasn’t won a single title this year, his overall record at that level is awe-inspiring – there have been 19 titles for Kuzmanov at the Futures. What’s a tough frustrating for the Bulgarian has been his inability to convert the same into something better at the higher level.

This includes his poor showing at the Challengers, in which he has lost in the opening round of three of the past four such tournaments he has played. Expecting him to get past a player ranked that much higher than him would probably be expecting a lot.

Caruso v Kuzmanov Prediction And Tip

Caruso starts off at 1/3 to win this and 4/5 to do that in straight sets. The latter looks very likely, but we would be wary of it being too straightforward a win for the Italian given his own issues outside of clay.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
