John Millman v Gilles Simon Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between the two players.
Gilles Simon won their only previous meeting. That win came in the Sydney International quarter-finals in January last year, with Simon taking the match in a third-set tie break. Additionally, that match was on a hard court.

Millman Shines Against Andreev
After suffering first-round elimination in the Paris Masters, John Millman showed his Astana Open winning form against Bulgarian Adrian Andreev, taking the tie in straight sets.
The first set went with serve until the sixth game when Millman broke Andreev. That coupled with a last-game breakpoint that he managed to convert proved decisive in giving him the first set.
From then on, the second set turned into a smoother affair for the Australian. He converted all but two of his break points to win the set 6-1. Additionally, he controlled the entire match and didn’t give his opponent any break points.
All this may have come against an opponent ranked outside the top 600, but he demonstrated the required professionalism that in the end gave him progression to the second round.
Against his forthcoming opponent, he should be confident of taking the match to someone who’s struggled for the better part of the year, but one who enters this tie in some good form as well.

Simon Defeats Andrej Martin In Third Straight Sets Win
Former World No. Six Gilles Simon followed his form from the Sofia Open qualifiers with a third win in straight sets. He needed only an hour and 19 minutes to do so in a match that he got 11 break points, though he only managed to convert four of those.
Despite his early elimination in Paris, he’s been in some good form from the Cologne Open, winning six of his last nine matches. That good form saw him reach the quarter-finals in Cologne, only for a budding Jannik Sinner to end his tournament participation in the last eight.
For an aging pro(currently 36), it will be hard for him to replicate the form that saw him win 14 career titles, but in such close matches, he can always be given the benefit of the doubt to conjure up such past performances.
Millman v Simon Prediction and Tip
Expect a close one between two players who are both chasing their third quarter-finals of the season. They both possess similar plays(a two-handed backhand), and their recent form has almost been replicable. Like their only previous head-to-head encounter, I expect the winner to prove himself in a third set.
Tip: Match to have three sets: 6/4 (bet365)
