Daniil Medvedev v Alexander Zverev  Head to Head

This will be the eight match between both players. Zverev leads the head-to-head 5-2. The players last met at the Paris Masters 1000 final last weekend, which was won by Medvedev in a close decider.

Medvedev On A Run With Paris Masters Win

After a very strong 2019 that saw him reach new heights and promise where he looked to be the leader of the pack among the Next Gen, Daniil Medvedev has had a less than impressive 2020. He got off to strong starts at the Australian and US Opens, but fell at the hands of Stanislas Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem respectively, in the latter stages of the tournament. A first round exit at the French Open followed, and wrapped up a disappointing Grand Slam performance in 2020 for Medvedev.

Outside of the majors, unlike 2019, this year witnessed unenthusiastic performances by the Russian, where he did not make the finals of a single ATP tournament. However, that run ended at the Paris Masters 1000 last week, where he hit good form and confidence and was a finalist at the Paris Masters 1000, his first of the season.  A confidence boosting win against the in-form Alexander Zverev followed, where Medvedev came back from a set down to win his first title of the year in a decider.

Medvedev is in a difficult group with world number one Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and the in-form Diego Schwartzman who is  making his first ever appearance. 2019 saw Medvedev lose his way around this time, i.e. the Paris Masters where he lost in the first round and the Tour Finals where he went without a win. A strong start this time around in the opener will set the tone for a good run here in London this week for the Russian.

Zverev Looking To Rekindle 2018 Tour Finals

Alexander Zverev surprised one and all with a strong run here in 2018, defeating Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win the semi-finals and the finals respectively. It has been an up and down last couple seasons for the German. A disappointing 2019 ended well with a semi-final showing at the Tour Finals here in London and 2020 saw Zverev make the semi-finals at the Australian Open, and was a finalist at the US Open, who was inches away from the title.

After a fourth round exit at the French Open, where the German was under the weather, it has been a good run on the indoor courts for Zverev. Back-to-back wins in Cologne witnessed some scintillating tennis, and a good run in Paris last week saw him defeat Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the semi- final, before losing a closely fought title match to Medvedev. In the midst of all, the world number seven has been subject to off- court scandals, but he has thus far managed to not let it affect his performance on the court.

Zverev is back in London, in reasonably good touch and knows what it takes to win here against the best there is right now in the sport. He would have learnt a thing or two about Medvedev, from their encounter last week, and will be looking to do one better this time around.

Medvedev v Zverev Prediction and Tip

This promises to be an exciting contest between two players primed to go all the way and be the biggest threats to the likes of world number one and tournament favorite Novak Djokovic. Both players have been in good touch in recent weeks as well. Medvedev’s win last weekend at the Bercy final over Zverev will have given him the confidence and a slight edge. Anybody’s match and all depends on the better player on the day. Expect Medvedev to clinch in a deciding third set.

Tip: Medvedev to win: 4/5 (bet365)
