Cameron Norrie v Juan Cruz Aragone Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the 74th-ranked Norrie and Aragone, who is ranked 299th in the world.

Norrie Hoping to See off 2020 Struggles

As recently as the penultimate week of the last season, Norrie featured and lost in two of the three matches at the Battle of the Brits.

It had been the story of the previous year for Norrie, who struggled throughout 2020 to garner results in his favour, with only a third round presence at the US Open being something to cheer for the Brit.

Other than that there was a quarterfinal at the St. Petersburg Open late in the regular season but the remaining tournaments yielded very little. Like his first round exits at the Auckland Open and Australian Open, and another in the opener at the Acapulco Open before the season went for a toss because of the pandemic.

What was interesting was his performance in the exhibition tournaments during the break, resulting in eight wins in nine matches but not too much of that converted into the kind of confidence he would have liked.

Can the new season help Norrie inch back from his 74th rank to his career-best of 33 places above.

Aragone Aiming for a Top 200 Spot

It was in 2018 when the American wild-card Aragone first became a 200-something ranked player in the world. Since then, his ranking has fluctuated between a low of 341 and a high of 223 – which had come in 2018 itself.

Never in these three years has he come close to breaching the top 200 rank mark, and some of it is down to his poor performances at the Challenger and Futures circuit as well. For instance, after having won two Futures titles in 2018, he struggled to get going again. Forget winning another title at any level, Aragone hasn’t even made it to the final.

That said, Aragone is more of a doubles specialist, having attained a career-best ranking of 153rd in the world, and having also won two Challenger titles in that category.

The big question is whether the step-up to this highest level, thanks to a wild-card, can bring out the best out of him and if he can take advantage of his opponent’s poor form in this opening round encounter.

Norrie v Aragone Prediction and Tip

Norrie will be a heavy favourite here, starting out 1/4 to win and we are looking at the Brit to win this opener in straight sets.

Tip: Norrie to win in straight sets: 4/5 (bet365)
