Anna Kalinskaya v Katie Boulter Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between the two players. Katie Boulter won their only previous meeting in straight sets. That win came in a second-round match in the 2018 Odlum Brown Vancouver Open on a hard court.

Kalinskaya’s 2020 Main Draw Woes

After a great 2019 that saw Kalinskaya reach her first WTA semi-final and attain a career-best ranking of 96th, the 22-year-old might have expected similar or better fortunes in 2020. However, the year didn’t pan out the way she’d have wanted.

She played in the main draw of six WTA tournaments and suffered first-round elimination in five of them. In the other one, she only made it to the second round. Her record at the end of the year stood at 9-8, which was mainly bolstered by the qualifiers that she won to make it into those main draws.

Speaking of qualifiers, she played in this year’s Australian Open qualifiers but was knocked out in the second round of the qualifiers, meaning that she won’t participate in the Australian Open; something that could be at the back of her mind as she comes into this tournament.

Up against Boulter, however, she comes in as the favorite and will be hoping to get her revenge from their last meeting.

Boulter Hoping To Rise Again

Once ranked as high as 82nd, which was recently in early 2019, Boulter has dropped in the rankings and now finds herself ranked 369th in the WTA rankings.

This was largely due to a sub-par 2019 that saw her end the season with a 15-14 record.

The shortened 2020 season didn’t help with her rankings as well. Her participation was mainly limited to lower-level tournaments, with her last WTA-level tournament being the Mexican Open—a tournament that was held almost a year ago.

In need of both matches and points to help improve her ranking, she comes into this tie hoping to have a good start to her season. A win, therefore, could be crucial in helping her regain her confidence and may act as a stepping stone for her to claw her way back to the top 100.

Kalinskaya v Boulter Prediction and Tip

The tie is an even one on paper, with both players suffering recent woes, but Kalinskaya has an edge over Boulter coming into this one. At 8/11, she holds some great value as well.

Boulter might muster some strength and push her Russian opponent to a third set, but either way, we expect Kalinskaya to come out on top.

Tip: Kalinskaya to win: 8/11 (bet365)
