Tommy Paul v Cameron Norrie Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between the two players.

Tommy Paul won their only previous meeting, which came in a 2016 Fairfield Challenger clash. Additionally, that match was on a hard court.

Paul Relishing The Challenge Of Another Aussie Swing

Tommy Paul’s season didn’t quite get off to the start he’d have wanted.

He participated in the Delray Beach Open but only made it to the second round, where a gritty Sebastian Korda—an eventual finalist—came from a set down to snatch victory.

However, there were still many positives for him to take in that defeat and his tournament participation as a whole, such as his impressive first-round victory in which he outclassed Ji Sung Nam in straight sets.

He’ll now relish being back in Australia, having achieved two great results in the land down under in 2020. He made it to the semi-finals of the Adelaide International, marking his best-ever run in an ATP-level tournament, which was even more impressive because he had to go through the grueling qualifying rounds.

Additionally, he reached the third round of the Australian Open, which remains his best-ever Grand Slam result.

If he can replicate or better such results, he’ll be well on his way to a great season.

Can Norrie Match His Delray Beach Form?

Norrie has had some erratic form in the past few years.

After an impressive 2019 season that saw him reach his maiden final, he faltered in 2020 and ended the year with a 14-15 record, marking his first negative year-end record in his professional career.

One would have been forgiven for thinking that he would start the 2021 season in similar fashion, but in typical Norrie form, he stunned all his critics and stormed to the semis of the Delray Beach Open.

He was impressive in that run, claiming the scalps of Adrian Mannarino and former champion Frances Tiafoe before local lad Sebastian Korda halted his dreams of a title in the semis.

Despite that, such a run will have surely boosted his confidence after a torrid 2020. But the question still remains; can an erratic Norrie carry that form into the Australian swing and beyond? If he can, then he should be an exciting prospect to watch this season.

Paul v Norrie Prediction and Tip

This match seems destined to be a close affair. There’s very little between the two players to signal a runaway favorite.

If we were to choose between the two, we’d give the edge to Norrie since he’s coming into Melbourne with some great momentum. Either way, the match seems destined for a crucial third set.

Tip: Match to have three sets: 6/4 (bet365)
