Sinner Tipped To Be a Future Star

At 19, Sinner is already tipped to become a multiple Grand Slam winner. Having won the NextGen ATP tournament on home soil in Milan at the end of 2019, he followed that up last year by winning his maiden ATP title in November, the Sofia Open, where he beat Vasek Pospisil in the final.

That made him the youngest player to win a senior ATP title since Kei Nishikori in 2008.

And, to underline his credentials, he reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final at the French Open, beating David Goffin and Alexander Zverev along the way before eventually losing to Rafael Nadal (no shame in that in Paris!).

He began his 2021 last Friday by playing in the Exhibition Day at the Drive tournament in Melbourne. Playing in one set matches against the Serb pair of Novak Djokovic and Filip Krajinovic, he lost them both, but not too much should be read into what were just warm-up matches.

After several days on the practice court, he should be more than ready for the challenge of Vukic, lost his own serve, and then forced another break of his own.

Vukic Looking to Impress in Home Event

Vukic spends most of his time on the ITF circuit, where he has one a single title and been in four other finals. In addition, he finished runner-up in the Challenger event in Monterrey last March, but this is a rare opportunity to mix with some of the senior players from the ATP tour.

The 24-year-old made his ATP singles main draw debut at the Sydney International in 2018, and, last season, achieved another milestone in his career. He qualified for a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, although he lost in the first round of the French Open to Pedro Martinez of  Spain in straight sets.

In the first round here in Melbourne, he was pitted against Yen-Haun Li of Taiwan, a man who is currently ranked outside the top 1000 after several years of injury problems.

Vukic began well, forcing a break in the opening service game of the match. And, although he later surrendered that break, he was able to break once more to close out the set. The second set followed an almost identical pattern. Vukic broke early, only to lose his own serve, before breaking his opponent once more.

He finally secured victory after a marathon ninth game, in which he saved two break points, squandered two match points, but finally converted the third.

Sinner v Vukic Prediction and Tip

Sinner will be looking to make a big impression at this year’s Australian Open, and will use this event to find some form. Vukic should present few problems to the teenage Italian.

Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
