Karolina Muchova and Jasmine Paolini Head to Head

The two players have met just twice on the tour and not so surprisingly, Muchova leads 2-0 in the head to head statistics. They last met in the 2018 US Open, where the Czech defeated Paolini 7-5, 6-2.

Muchova Starts Well in Melbourne

The 24-year-old Czech in many ways is a quiet storm in the making. Having spent the whole of last year inside the top 30, she will now look to reach greater heights and do better on the tour.

In the WTA Melbourne 2, she started as the 8th seed and was awarded a bye into the second round. There, she met Catherine McNally, whom she whitewashed with absolute clinical performance.

The match lasted for just an hour and saw Muchova win with 6-1, 6-1, winning 5 breakpoints and keeping a first-service win rate of over 80 per cent.

Currently ranked World No. 27, Muchova’s last few tournaments have been quite uneventful but that can be chalked up to the whole Covid-19 fiasco and all the problems it brought with it.

One of her better performances came last year in the US Open, where she reached the fourth round. Among other things, the Czech was also the semifinalist in the WTA Elite Trophy in 2019, showing great promise and signs of a tennis star.

A Defining Run for Paolini?

Jasmine Paolini, currently ranked No. 97, has spent most of her time on the WTA tour in futile attempts to move past the early rounds.

Her present run in Melbourne is definitely a remarkable exception to that, considering she failed to move past the opening rounds in her last 8 competitions.

In fact, the last time she reached the fourth round in any event – WTA or ITF, was back in 2019 November in Tokyo, where she reached the final of the ITF $100,000 and lost to Shuai Zhang.

That said, the Italian has come a long way since then, as evident by her form in Melbourne. In the opening game, she beat Rebecca Marino 7-6(2), 6-3.

In the following round, she met the 10th seed Qiang Wang and dispatched her in three sets with 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. It was a match that tested endurance and Paolini came out on the top after gruelling two hours and a half hours. Wang was fairly better than Paolini in that game, but the underdog managed to win the crucial points to get the narrow victory.

Muchova vs Paolini Prediction and Tip

A win here for Muchova seems to be the most likely result but it may not be an easy one. Paolini cand and will fight back, making this an intriguing one to follow.

Tip: Muchova to win: 4/9 (bet365)
