Serena Williams vs Laura Siegemund Head to Head
Williams holds a 2-0 lead over Siegemund, last beating her in the 2020 WTA Auckland with 6-4, 6-3.

An Injury Scare for Williams?
Just last week, Williams was competing in a WTA 500 level event in Melbourne – her first tournament on the tour since the last year’s French Open. She started off well and reached all the way to the semifinal before withdrawing from her game against Ashleigh Barty with shoulder pain.
It is also worth mentioning that in the quarterfinal game against Danielle Collins, Williams was pushed to three sets which she ultimately won with 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
However, the American seems to be completely relaxed ahead of the major, shrugging off any injury concerns. Her shoulder has been treated and admits she feels confident and relaxed for the Grand Slam.
Serena Williams is chasing history in Melbourne by looking to win the elusive 24th title and equal Margaret Court’s all-time record of the same. The former World No. 1 is also looking to become the first player in the Open Era to win a Slam in four different decades.
Since winning her 23rd title, Williams has reached the final of a major four times but on all occasions, she had to settle for the runners-up trophy. Her last final was the 2019 US Open, where she fell to Bianca Andreescu in the final.
The number 10 seed finds herself in the bracket of death with the likes of Simona Halep, Aryna Sabalenka, and Naomi Osaka also lurking in the same half.

Siegemund Looking for a Good Start
The 32-year-old Laura Siegemund is more of a doubles player and has achieved far more on that circuit than on the singles.
Her most noticeable accomplishment is winning the US Open doubles title last year with Vera Zvonareva, beating the pair of Nicole Melichar and Xu Yifan in the final.
As for her antics on the singles circuit, the German last played in the Gippsland Trophy, where she fell in the third round to Simona Halep. Apart from that, she also featured in the WTA Abu Dhabhi where she fell in the first round to Kirsten Flipkens.
Siegemund hasn’t won a singles title since the 2017 Stuttgart Open. That said, she had a decent run last season and managed to end the year inside the top 60. She reached the quarterfinal in Roland Garros, which was her best run of the year.
Currently ranked World No. 51, Siegemund has also got some experience beating the top players like Halep, Victoria Azarenka, and Karolina Pliskova. Perhaps, she can tap into that experience for this game?
Williams vs Siegemund Prediction and Tip
Unless Serena gets perturbed by her shoulder again, expect her to win this match in straight sets, without spending a lot of games.
Tip: Williams to win in straight sets: 8/13 (bet365)
