Diego Schwartzman v Elias Ymer Head to Head
There has been one previous match between Schwartzman and Ymer before this and it came in the first round of the 2015 US Open. The Argentine won it in straight sets.

Argentina had the misfortune of being drawn in the same group as Russia, which meant they were up two of the best in the world. Schwartzman himself faced Daniil Medvedev in his singles match and came cropped against the world number four, losing 7-5, 6-3.
What was a tad surprising was even in his win over Kei Nishikori, who was returning to tennis after a while, the world number nine did not have it very easy. Himself a tad rusty, Schwartzman needed three sets to get past the Japanese player, strangely dropping the second set tie-breaker having won the two sets around it 6-1, 6-0.
Earlier last year, Schwartzman had one of his better years, which allowed him to qualify for the ATP Finals. However, Schwartzman, a clay court specialist, lost every round-robin match to crash out early.
His path to that year-ending competition comprised of three appearances in the finals of ATP tournaments, including one on indoor hard courts and a semifinal entry at the French Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal. Earlier, he had defeated Nadal to make it to the final of the Rome Masters in one of the biggest upsets of the season.

Qualifier Ymer Searching for Good Run
Once ranked 105th in the world, Ymer’s form struggles in recent times have seen him fall to 204th on the ATP Rankings. More recently, he won three rounds to enter the Australian Open main draw but then playing against Gilles Simon in one of the tune-up tournaments in Melbourne, Ymer went down in straight sets.
This comes on the back of a forgettable 2020 season in which he didn’t win a single main draw match on the ATP circuit. And even in the Challengers, there was nothing better than odd second round appearance.
What makes it worse for Ymer is he is himself a better player on clay than on hard court surfaces, which means any minor advantage a player might have had over Schwartzman otherwise is also lost. As such, he would need more than a miracle to come through here.
