Dusan Lajovic vs Sergiy Stakhovsky Head to Head
Stakhovsky holds a 1-0 lead over Lajovic, last beating him right here in the Australian Open itself in the first round with 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-4.
The pair have also met in Challengers and qualifying events thrice – over there, the Ukrainian leads Lajovic by 2-1.

Lajovic Looking to Better his Run in Melbourne
In the last year’s edition of the Australian Open, Dusan Lajovic went as far as the third round, losing ultimately to Diego Schwartzmann. Barring his fourth-round run in the French Open years ago, that stint in Melbourne was among the Serbian’s better performances of the career.
Now, the 30-year-old looks to better that run and possibly, achieve new feats personally. Currently ranked World No. 26. he is just 3 places shy of his career-best ranking of World No. 23.
However, if we are to go by his recent stint in the ATP Cup, things may not be that good for the Serb. He lost both of his games last week to Milos Raonic and Jan-Lennard Struff. It was definitely a bit disappointing, considering that in the 2020 ATP Cup, Lajovic reached all the way to the final and won the cup for Serbia.
As for his run last season, it was definitely uneventful and unexciting. Towards the end of the season, Dusan featured in the French Open, ATP Sardinia, ATP Antwerp, Vienna Open, and the Paris Masters. Needless to say, he ended up losing in the early rounds in all of them.
With a win-loss tally of 14-16, the best he managed was a third-round stint in the Italian Open.

Can Stakhovsky Pull off an Upset Here?
Sergiy Stakhovsky, currently ranked World No. 201, hasn’t had that glittering of a career. With only four singles titles, the last of which came back in 2010, it is fair to assume that he is not that formidable of a player as he once was.
In fact, the Ukrainian spent the better part of the last decade playing on the Challenger circuit, playing in singles and doubles game. He has had some modicum of success there with titles coming as recently as 2018.
Last season was a similar story for the 35-year-old, who competed primarily in the Challenger tournaments. His sole highlight of the season was a quarterfinal run in Bratislava. He also played in ATP Montpellier but lost the opening round after qualifying.
Stakhovsky managed to qualify for the Australian Open after winning all three of his qualifying games. Following that, he appeared in the Adelaide International where he fell in the second round to Reilly Opelka. Interestingly, Stakhovsky has never made it past the second round here in Melbourne.
Lajovic vs Stakhovsky Prediction and Tip
Lajovic, in all likelihood, should get this encounter easily. He faces an opponent who has hardly spent time on the ATP circuit.
Tip: Lajovic to win: 4/11 (bet365)
