Hurkacz Will Be High on Confidence
Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz will be pretty confident heading into the Australian Open as he comes to the tournament with a 6-1 record and a title in 2021.
The big-hitting 23-year-old, who has shown constant improvement over the last three years, began the season by winning the Delray Beach Open title in January.
The 6’5” Pole didn’t drop a set as he defeated Daniel Galan (Round of 16), Roberto Quiroz (quarterfinal), Chris Harrison (semifinal) and Sebastian Korda (final) to capture his second ATP title.
In 2019, Hurkacz had won his maiden title by beating Benoit Paire in the final at Winston Salem. Last season, Hurkacz reached the semifinals in Auckland and the quarterfinals in Cologne as he finished with a 15-13 record.
When it comes to Grand Slams, Hurkacz has reached the third round only once, at Wimbledon in 2019. This will be his third main draw appearance at the Australian Open. He was defeated by Ivo Karlovic in the first round in 2019.
In 2020, he won his first main draw match in the Melbourne Slam, rallying from two sets down to beat Austria’s Dennis Novak. However, his run ended with a second round defeat to John Millman.

Ymer Will Have his Task Cut Out
Sweden’s 22-year-old Mikael Ymer is 22-27 in his career so far.
Brother of Elias Ymer who will play his first round match against David Schwartzman on Monday, Mikael reached a career high ranking of 67 last year.
Currently ranked 95th in the world, Mikael has made the main draw of majors on four occasions, reaching the second round of the French Open in 2019 and the second round of the Australian Open last year.
In Melbourne, he defeated Japan’s Yasutaka Uchiyama in the first round last year, and then stretched Karen Khachanov to the hilt, taking him to the fifth set before making an exit.
Last season he was 6-7, with his best performance coming in Auckland where he reached the fourth round after beating Canada’s Frank Dancevic, America’s Mackenzie McDonald and the much higher ranked Frances Tiafoe. Hurkacz ended his run in the Round of 16.
Hurkacz v Ymer Prediction and Tip
Hurkacz is in real good form and should win, but it won’t be served on a platter. Expect the Swede to give the Pole a tough fight.
Tip: Hurkacz to win AND Both players to win a set: 8/5 (bet365)
