Simona Halep v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

There have been three previous matches on the WTA circuit and one match played at the Fed Cup and Halep has beaten the 72nd-ranked Tomljanovic ever single time. Their last meeting came at the Adelaide International last year, and Halep came away 6-4, 7-5 to make it to the quarterfinal.

Halep Hauls Cabrera Out of the Tournament

An injury to Halep meant she wasn’t at her 100% while playing in the quarterfinal of the Gippsland Trophy against Ekaterina Alexandrova, and the result of that was a 6-2, 6-1 drubbing for the Romanian. The Romanian, however, came back strongly in the first round of the Australian Open against Lizette Cabrera, an Aussie wild-card, as she completed a 6-2 6-1 rout.

Halep started off like she meant business and fitness issues, if any, had been long forgotten. Of the opening 19 points, Halep grabbed a whopping 15 of them while making it doubly difficult to break for the Aussie.

A couple of breaks in the first set sealed the deal for Halep and while she was broken while looking to serve out the match at 5-0 in the second set, she broke her opponent in the very next game to complete the victory.

The good news for Halep is she has looked in good form all throughout the previous season, winning three titles. And even in tournaments she hasn’t won, the world number two has been relentless in the matches she has won before falling away – like was the case at the French Open where she lost to Iga Swiatek in shocking manner.

Which is why Halep would be a tough nut to crack for a player she has played before and managed to defeat multiple times.

Tomljanovic Too Strong for Doi

In her times, Misaki Doi has been a player to reckon but more recently her form has fallen away and she has struggled to get going. Tomljanovic took full toll of the same in their first round match, with the Aussie registering a 6-2, 6-1 win over the Japanese player to march into the second round.

The first set saw an early exchange of breaks before Tomljanovic broke twice to lead the way towards an easy win. And it got easier for the Aussie, who needed just 31 minutes to wrap up the second set and with it, the match.

While she served six aces in the encounter, Tomljanovic would be slightly underwhelmed with her 59% first serves in. Against Halep, she will need to overcome that problem if she wants to compete.

Halep v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip

Halep should have no difficulties here, starting off at 1/10 to win this one and 4/7 to do that in straight sets. Backing Halep to make it 5-0 against Tomljanovic.

Tip: Halep to win in straight sets: 4/7 (bet365)
