Elina Svitolina vs Cori Gauff Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players on the tour.

Svitolina Starts with an Unconvincing Win
World No. 5 Elina Svitolina got off to a winning start here in Melbourne, beating Marie Bouzkova in the opener with 6-3, 7-6(5). While her unforced error count was on the higher side at 33, she managed to win the points that mattered.
The Ukrainian continued to perform following a decent start to the 2021 WTA Tour. The number 5 seed reached the quarterfinal back to back in WTA Abu Dhabi and the Gippsland Trophy last week.
However, she fell ultimately to Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens respectively in three sets, with the final set in both the matches going to a decider.
Svitolina had a decent run last year, having reached the quarters in the French Open and Italian Open. She also won a couple of titles in the Monterrey Open and WTA Strasbourg, allowing her to remain in the top five.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a glittering career so far although, a Grand Slam still eludes her. Nonetheless, she has reached the semifinal in a Grand Slam twice and will be keen on repeating that feat again.

Gauff Looking to Repeat Last Year’s Antics
The 16-year-old Cori Gauff reached the fourth round in the Australian Open last year, beating the likes of Venus Williams, Sorana Cirstea, and Naomi Osaka en route. Just the preceding year at Wimbledon, the American enjoyed a similar run where she made it to the second week.
But that’s not all – the American teen prodigy also reached the quarterfinal in the Australian Open doubles last season with Catty McNally, but lost to pair of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic.
Gauff continued to make strides through the season; she later reached the semifinal at the Top Seed Open and second round at the French Open and WTA Ostrava.
This season, she appeared in the Gippsland Trophy and WTA Abu Dhabi but fell in the early rounds.
Gauff started her run in the Melbourne Slam with a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Swiss youngster Jill Teichmann. It wasn’t a surprising result, considering that the teenager has already racked up a bevvy of breathtaking wins against top 10 players. If anything, with just 13 unforced errors, a first-service win rate of 87% and 100% breakpoint conversion rate, she is formidable.
Svitolina vs Gauff Prediction and Tip
Svitolina will start this game as the favourite to win but given Gauff’s reputation of being the ‘giant killer,’ it will not be an easy game for the Ukrainian. Expect over 19.5 games in the match.
Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
