Jennifer Brady v Donna Vekic Head to Head

There has been one previous occasion on which Brady and Vekic have faced off against each other. It came in the 2018 Italian Open which saw Vekic take down Brady in the qualifying rounds.

Brady Blasts Pasts Juvan

Brady has lost just 11 games in the three matches she has played so far and every time, she has entered the match with a very aggressive mindset. And that’s shown in how quickly she has wrapped up the opening set, almost as if her opponent hasn’t even had a chance to respond.

In all her three matches, including the third round win against Kaja Juvan, Brady has dropped just one game in the first set.

And she said it in as many words after defeating Juvan in her latest encounter – “I think I’m coming out there, I have a mission, and I’m on the mission. I’m playing pretty solid tennis, not really giving away too many free points. I think that’s key.”

The American did concede 24 unforced errors in her win, but rarely looked troubled by her young opponent. She wrapped up seven games in a row to go 6-1, 2-0 up, and while Juvan did break back to make it 2-2, Brady was back with a break of serve in the very next game.

The US Open semifinalist then wrapped up the encounter in the ninth game with another break of serve.

Vekic Reversing Her Form Loss

Bit by bit, Vekic is trying to rebuild her performances, which had seen a major hit in the lead-up to this tournament in Melbourne.

The once-19th-ranked Croat has fallen to 33rd in the world and that has been thanks to an underwhelming 2020 season which saw her end the year on an 8-11 win-loss record. And she continued her woeful form in the lead-up to the Australian Open, losing in the first round at the Abu Dhabi Open and the Yarra Valley Classic Open in Melbourne.

By reaching the fourth round, she would have not just added some confidence under her belt but also joined a list of tennis players to have won made the fourth round of all the Grand Slams. It took her a lot of effort though.

Down a set and 3-0 in the second against Kaia Kanepi, Vekic needed to save one match-point off her own serve at 4-5 down in the second set before carving out a shock 5-7, 7-6, 6-4 victory. She had earlier needed three sets to get past Wang Yafan in the first round and then brushed Nadia Podoroska aside in the second, a win that would have given her a major boost.

Brady v Vekic Prediction and Tip

Brady is 1/3 to win this, and while we think she should win this, those odds are more suited for Vekic’s form before this tournament began. At the moment, we would think backing Vekic at 12/5 sounds like a good plan, as would be going for the games market.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
