Rebecca Peterson v Olivia Gadecki Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be only the third time Gadecki has met a top 100 ranked  player in her career, and one of the others was Sofia Kenin on Sunday.

Peterson, Swedish Number One

Swedish number one Peterson’s interest in the Australian Open was ended at the first round stage last week by Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, despite taking the opening set.

After beating Anastasia Potapove in the first round here on Sunday, she faced the Belgian world-ranked 110 Greet Minnen in the second round on Monday. The Swede won in straight sets, although her passage to the third round was not without difficulty.

She broke Minnen in the eighth game of the first set, only to immediately surrender the break back. She had to wait two more service games before she had another chance, and was finally able to convert her third set point.

Peterson made a bad start to the second set by dropping her serve. But she was able to break back again, and, after saving a break point, was able to break the Belgian once more. She sealed the win on her third match point.

Gadecki Stuns Kenin

Australian teenager Gadecki, who does not even have a world ranking, stunned everybody by pulling off the biggest win of her young career so far, knocking out the top seed and world number four Sofia Kenin in the second round on Sunday.

And she did it the hard way, coming from behind to defeat an opponent whose defence of her Australian Open title had ended early last week.

She was cheered on by her training partner Ashleigh Barty who was court-side to watch her.

Kenin started brightly, taking the first set for the loss of just two games. But Gadecki proved she  was made of sterner stuff by saving 14 of the 17 break points against her, serving 12 aces and producing 44 winners. She won the second set on a tie-break, and then forced the one and ultimately decisive service break in the third set.

From there she served out to complete a famous victory.

Peterson v Gadecki Prediction and Tip

Although Gadecki will be buoyed by her big win over Kenin and can approach the match without any fear, it is asking a lot for lightening to strike twice in such a short space of time.  Instead, a Peterson victory can be expected.

Tip: Peterson to win: 6/25 (bet365)
