Belinda Bencic v Storm Sanders Head to Head

Bencic Routs Doi to Make Last Eight

After a first round bye, Bencic proved to be too strong for Japan’s Misaki Doi in their second round match, winning 6-1, 6-3 in just an hour and 16 minutes.

Bencic was off to a flier, breaking her opponent twice in the first three games to take a 3-0 lead before she lost her own serve. Not that it mattered too much to the Swiss number one, as she broke Doi twice more to complete the first set rout.

The second set looks slightly more competitive but in reality, it wasn’t. Bencic broke Doi twice again, then exchanged another pair of breaks to serve for the match at 5-2. And while she lost her serve again at that stage, Bencic broke Doi for the 10th time in the match to complete an easy victory.

This follows Bencic’s exit from the third round of the Australian Open, where she lost to Elise Mertens in straight sets.

Qualifier Sanders Pulls Out a Rabbit

Sanders has never been ranked in the top 200 of the WTA rankings, and after losing in the first round of the Australian Open qualifiers, she was a rank outsider coming into the qualifying rounds of the Adelaide International here.

The 292nd-ranked Sanders needed a three-setter against Bernarda Pera and then defeated Caty McNally to make it to the main draw as a surprise package.

Starting out with odds of 3/1 to win her opener against Ajla Tomljanovic, a fellow Aussie, Sanders dropped just three games en route the next stage. Yulia Putintseva, who has been gunning for the top 20 spot for a while and had bettered Laura Siegemund in her opener, should have had no trouble in getting past the Aussie.

Instead, Sanders showed great resolve and maturity in pulling past the Kazakh.

In the first set, Sanders had an early break but more vitally even when Putintseva broke back at 3-5, it didn’t bog the Aussie down a lot, who then broke again to win the set.

Putintseva held her nerve to level things back and grab the momentum going into the third set but back to back breaks in the fourth and the sixth games of the final set ensured there was no looking back for Sanders.

Bencic v Sanders Prediction and Tip

Bencic is 4/11 to win this while Sanders starts off slightly better than the previous matches at 11/5. Bencic should still win but we could be looking at a gritty performance from her Aussie opponent.

Tip: Sanders to win a set – Yes: 4/6 (Sign up with bet365 here to get excellent odds)
