Petra Kvitova v Jessica Pegula Head to Head
In their only meeting at the U.S. Open last year, Kvitova didn’t have much trouble in beating Pegula 6-4, 6-3 and advancing to the fourth round.

2018 Qatar Open champion and last year’s finalist, Petra Kvitova inched closer to a third final in Doha after she edged out a feisty Annett Kontaveit in a thrilling quarterfinal on Thursday.
In what turned out to be a hard-hitting contest, the fourth seed needed an hour and 52 minutes to beat the Estonian 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
A two-time Wimbledon champion, Kvitova struck 31 winners to 24 unforced errors and converted nine of 16 break points while saving three of 10 to book a place in the final four.
The Czech left-hander, who fell to Aryna Sabalenka in the title clash in Doha last year, had on Wednesday beaten Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 6-3 in the Round of 16, which was her opening match of the tournament after being handed a first-round bye.
Ranked No. 10 in the world, Kvitova will be aiming to reach a 38th career final on Friday. A winner of 27 titles, the former World No. 2 hasn’t won one since claiming the Stuttgart title in April 2019.
The 30-year-old, who was beaten by Sofia Kenin in the semifinal of the French Open last year, didn’t have a great start to 2021, failing to win two matches in a row in her first two tournaments, the Yarra Valley Classic and the Australian Open, where she faced a shock defeat to Sorana Cirstea of Romania in the second round.

Pegula’s Hot Streak Continues
World No. 44 Jessica Pegula continued her stunning run in the tournament as she hustled past No. 2 seed Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The American, who reached her first major quarterfinal at the Australian Open earlier this year, hit 20 winners and made just seven unforced errors to demolish the Czech World No. 6 6-3, 6-1.
Broken just once in the one-hour contest, Pegula capitalized on four of nine break opportunities and won 60 of 96 total points to notch her fifth win in as many days.
Having made a slow start on Sunday against Russia’s Anastasia Potapova in the first qualifying round, where she had to dig deep to take the three-set contest, Pegula has looked like a player to beat this week as she stormed into the semis without dropping another set in the tournament.
The 27-year-old defeated Misaki Doi 6-2, 6-2 in the second qualifying round on Monday to enter the main draw. On Tuesday, she knocked out China’s Wang Qiang 6-3, 6-1 in the first round and followed that up with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, before accounting for the 2017 Doha champion in the quarterfinal on Thursday.
Pegula, who won her only WTA title in Washington DC in 2019, had broken into the top 100 for the first time in her career the same year. She will be aiming to reach a fourth final on Friday.
The 2020 Auckland Open runner-up, Pegula has been in sensational form since the resumption of tennis after the lockdown last year. She reached a first significant quarterfinal at the Cincinatti Open and followed that with a maiden third round appearance at the U.S. Open.
This year, she made a sensational run to the last eight of the Melbourne slam, defeating Victoria Azarenka and Elina Svitolina on the way. Jennifer Brady prevented her from entering the final four after scoring a come-from-behind three-set win.
Kvitova v Pegula Prediction and Tip
The experienced Kvitova will start as the favourite in the contest, but Pegula will be a hard competitor to beat. The American has improved with the tournament and has got into a good rhythm. Expect three sets in the match.
