David Goffin v Kei Nishikori Head to Head
Nishikori is 3-0 against Goffin. All of those three matches were played in 2015. While the Japanese won the Miami and Canada Masters matches in straight sets, he was pushed to three by the Belgian at the Madrid Masters.

David Goffin is one of the few players to have played a lot of tennis this year and he heads to Dubai with a 9-5 record this season, which saw him claim his fifth title in Montpellier and end a more than three year title-less drought.
Beginning the year in Antalya, the former World No. 7 struck form immediately, reaching the semifinal before going down to eventual champion Alex de Minaur in a close three-setter.
The brilliant start to the season was followed by a couple of first round exits in Melbourne (Adelaide International and the Australian Open). But the Belgian rebounded in Montpellier, beating Benjamin Bonzi, Lorenzo Sonego, Egor Gerasimov and Roberto Bautista Agut en route to a fifth career title.
A 14-time ATP finalist, Goffin had not won a title since winning in Tokyo in 2017. He did reach the 2017 ATP Finals final and also the final in Halle and Cincinnati in 2019, but failed to win any of those.
Goffin comes to Dubai having featured in Rotterdam and Doha this month. He won his first round matches in both the tournaments but lost in the second rounds to Jeremy Chardy and Taylor Fritz respectively.
The 30-year-old right-hander, who reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open last year, had an average 2020 season that saw him go 12-11. He will be happy to have made confident start to 2021.

Nishikori Rallies To Oust Opelka
On Tuesday, Goffin will face Japan’s Kei Nishikori, who scored a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over big-serving American Reilly Opelka in the first round on Sunday.
Enduring 13 aces in the match, the Japanese, who was broken once in the first set, didn’t allow a single break point in the next two while converting two of three break points to wrap up the contest in an hour and 37 minutes.
The win improved the World No. 41 to 3-5 this year. Coming into the season with an ordinary 2-4 record in 2020, Nishikori continued to struggle in 2021 as he lost both his singles matches at the ATP Cup and was knocked out by Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round of the Australian Open.
The 31-year-old finally got some form going in Rotterdam, defeating Felix Auger Aliassime and Alex de Minaur in the first two rounds to reach the quarterfinal before going down to Borna Coric in two tie-breaks.
Last week in Marseille, the former World No. 4 was beaten by surprise finalist Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round.
A 28-time finalist, Nishikori has won 12 titles in his career, with the last of them coming in Brisbane 2019. He had a terrific 2019 season, finishing with a 29-14 record.
Goffin v Nishikori Prediction and Tip
Nishikori has won all three of their previous contests, but they haven’t met since 2015. Although Goffin has started the year well and is the seeded player, he will be wary of the resurgent Japanese, who seems to be slowly getting back his lost touch. Expect a close match with a third set deciding the winner.
