Grigor Dimitrov v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between Bulgaria’s Dimitrov and the 46th-ranked Kecmanovic before this.

Dimitrov Benefits from Mannarino Injury

An hour and 12 minutes into Dimitrov’s first round match, his opponent Adrian Mannarino retired from the encounter because of an injury and the Bulgarian former world number three advanced to seal his place against Kecmanovic.

Dimitrov was leading his opponent by a set and 3-0 in the second anyway but he would appreciate the quicker finish given these matches will come thick and fast if he goes the distance.

The first set was a cagey affair, with neither player giving the other too many chances. Dimitrov had a break-point in the third game but failed to convert it and then got two more chances in the seventh, the second of which he converted. Mannarino then got three of his own when his opponent served for the set at 5-4 but off the second set-point, Dimitrov finished off the set.

Things began to get anti-climatic after that. Dimitrov broke Mannarino twice in a row to start the second set and just before he could serve in the fourth game for a 4-0 lead, Mannarino retired from the encounter.

This follows a quarterfinal appearance for Dimitrov at the Australian Open, which was his first at a Grand Slam since the 2019 US Open.

Kecmanovic Rushes Past Lopez

Similar to Dimitrov, Kecmanovic was also on court for an hour and 14 minutes, and completed a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win over Spaniard veteran Feliciano Lopez in his opening round match.

Kecmanovic, who was coming from a clay court swing with appearances at the Cordoba Open and the Argentina Open, adjusted quickly to the faster hard court surfaces and got a break-point in the very first game of the match.

While the Serb didn’t convert that one, he made it 4-3 by breaking Lopez and then served it out at 5-4 to take the first set. Kecmanovic was soon 2-0 up in the second set, and while Lopez made it 3-3 with a break back, he failed to hold on to his serve at 4-4.

Kecmanovic will now hope he can make this third tournament this year where he wins at least two rounds after reaching the quarterfinal at the Great Ocean Road Open and the semifinal at the Buenos Aires Open.

Dimitrov v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

While Dimitrov is a heavy favourite at 1/2 to win this, we reckon this could turn out to be a fighting match that goes into a third set. Either go with that or look at the number of games in this match.

Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 10/11 (bet365)
