Denis Shapovalov v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head

After an indifferent start to the year, Denis Shapovalov has found a completely different level in the Middle East, which is relatable to his best form. For the second straight week, the Canadian power-hitting machine secured a quarterfinal spot courtesy of dominant straight sets win over world no.35 Hubert Hurkacz.
Shapovalov who is making his tournament debut in Dubai, has been on a mission in addressing his poor record against opponents lurking in his way. First up, he registered a comprehensive win over Jan-Lennard Struff – a player he had struggled immensely against in the past. But the Canadian was able to end that barren spell against the German, picking up his second head-to-head victory in six meetings.
Against Hurkacz, who was a junior rival, Shapovalov did not wince. The Pole had won their past two meetings, both contested on hard courts of North America and was primed to keep up his good record. However, Shapovalov played inspired tennis in a match that lasted 76 minutes.
A tight opening set featured one service break which the Canadian took early on, and wrapped up the set 6-4. Shapovalov continued to pummel deep forehand returns, and crunched an impressed 26 winners. The third seed also came out on top in serving duels, using his left-handed swinging serve to create some insanely good angles and the Delray champion could not fashion a break of serve in the whole match.

Write Off Chardy at your Own Peril
Jeremy Chardy continues to show the implications of just how much playing on adrenaline can result in. At 34, and toiling around outside the world’s top 50, you would perhaps forge the idea that travelling around the world’s most beautiful cities, collecting your retirement cheque, is the ultimate ambition.
But not Chardy, who has been quietly making his way through the draws in the first three months of the season. In six tournaments since the season started, only the Australian Open and the Qatar Open have been massive letdowns, with the Frenchman suffering first round losses. But perhaps we should empathize with his horror draw in Melbourne as he was slated to face the world no.1 Novak Djokovic.
We will never know just how much damage the world no.53 could have done Down Under had he received a generous first round opponent. But what we know with certainty, is that this is Jeremy Chardy rolling back the years, outsprinting the fastest, and overpowering the strongest.
This week in Dubai, Chardy has made it to the last eight thanks to three mammoth wins over Ramos Vinolas, Alex De Minaur and Karen Khachanov.
Against De Minaur, experience won over youth. The Australian is one of the most agile tennis players in the world. But found Chardy planting unreachable ground strokes.
In the third round, the French veteran overpowered Karen Khachanov in a match that sailed past the two and half hour mark. He fired 19 aces, held all of his service games, in a 6-7 6-4 6-4 victory.
Shapovalov v Chardy Prediction and Tip
Chardy has been in terrific form this season. His serve has been impregnable for the most part which largely explains why he has had so much success lately. But he has played three grueling three-set matches to get here. Shapovalov admitted his desire to play a very limited number of tournaments this season, and should be fresh for this one. We expect the Canadian to end the Frenchman’s fairytale run.
