Nadia Podoroska v Mayar Sherif Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the ITF circuit in 2019 with Sherif winning that encounter on clay in straight sets.

Podoroska Coming off Form Slump
When Podoroska, who had made it as far as the semifinal of the French Open last year as a qualifier, won three matches to enter the quarterfinal at the Yarra Valley Classic earlier this year, it looked like she was continuing from where she had left off the last season.
Unfortunately for her, things haven’t looked as rosy since then.
Despite defeating Petra Kvitova at that competition in Melbourne, she went down to Marketa Vondrousova in her very next match there and has since lost four of her next six matches. This includes a shock loss in the first round of the Monterrey Open at the hands of Anna Kalinskaya, a qualifier ranked 130th in the world.
A second round loss at the Australian Open, and another opening defeat at the Phillip Island Trophy had earlier meant her campaign in Australia came to a premature end this season.
She starts off against a player who has never been a top 100 player in her career before but given her recent form, Podoroska will need a big turnaround here.

Sherif’s Won Just One Main Round Match
Since winning seven ITF level titles in 2019 and adding two more of those in 2020, Egypt’s Sherif has turned her attention to the WTA circuit. This season, she started things off in Australia as a qualifier for the year’s first Grand Slam, and it was there the wildcard won her first ever Grand Slam main draw encounter.
It was also the only match she’s won this season with Sherif making the main draws of five competitions in 2021 but unable to go beyond the opener at four of them.
Her most recent foray in a WTA tournament came at the Monterrey Open where she won a couple of rounds of the qualifier but that was followed by a three-set loss at the hands of Lauren Davis. The positive she can take from that encounter is the manner in which she won the opening set against Davis before getting dismantled in that three-setter.
Podoroska v Sherif Prediction and Tip
Podoroska is a favourite but we believe this could be a tight contest given the form shown by the two. Could see Sherif sneak a set out of her Argentine opponent.
Tip: Sherif to win a set – Yes: 4/7 (bet365)
