Shelby Rogers v Madison Brengle Head to Head
At the highest level, the two have played each other twice and it’s one apiece on head to head. The first of those matches came in the qualifiers of the Australian Open in 2014 and Brengle had won that while more recently Rogers defeated her opponent at the 2020 US Open third round.
There have been two other matches at the ITF circuit as well, in 2011 and 2019 respectively and it’s not been too different. The 2011 contest was won by Brengle while Rogers won the 2019 competition.

Rogers Hoping to Build on Solid Start
It’s been the kind of start for Rogers that she would have been hoping for, having started off in Australia with back to solid performances. It started off with three wins at the Yarra Valley Classic where she made it to the quarterfinals by defeating Fiona Ferro, Rebecca Peterson and Petra Martic before falling to Ash Barty in the last eight stage.
At the Australian Open, the same pattern followed when Rogers came through against three opponents including Anett Kontaveit but Barty got the better of her in round four. And then at the Adelaide International, Rogers was an easy winner over Veronika Kudermetova and Johanna Konta in the first two rounds while Cori Gauff finally ended her run in the quarterfinals there.
Since returning from Australia, Rogers has featured in just one tournament, in Dubai, and went out in the second round to Elise Mertens.
Rogers now looks to regain her form from the Australian leg as she features in one of the last hard court competitions before the start of the clay court swing.

Brengle’s Season Needs a Push
Former world number 35 has had a struggle on her hands all season so far, winning just two of her six main draw matches. All of these were a part of the tournaments held in Australia, with Brengle managing a win at only the Australian Open and the Phillip Island Trophy.
Other than the losses in the second round at those two competitions, Brengle also lost her openers at the Yarra Valley Classic and the Adelaide International, having started out as a qualifier in the latter.
To be fair to Brengle, her defeats have come at the hands of stiffer opposition; Anastasija Sevastova at the Yarra Valley Classic, Jennifer Brady at the Australian Open, Bianca Andreescu at the Phillip Island Trophy and then Iga Swiatek in Adelaide.
What Brengle would want is to get going here, but realistically she knows she is up against an in-form player and unless she can put up a strong fight and Rogers make unprecedented mistakes, it would be an uphill task.
Rogers v Brengle Prediction and Tip
This could well end up being a one-sided contest with Rogers winning in straight sets against an opponent who has been struggling to get going.
Tip: Rogers to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
