Sorana Cirstea v Katrina Scott Head to Head
This will be the first ever meeting between Cirstea, who is ranked 66th in the world and the 443rd-ranked Scott.

Cirstea Makes Modest Start to the Season
Once ranked 21st in the world, Cirstea is now grappling in the second half of the top 100 ranked players and the reason for that is the kind of consistency she has shown in her results. Consistency in her inability to go the distance that is.
And the start to this season has been an apt example of what we are trying to say.
Cirstea kick-started her 2021 campaign with a quarterfinal appearance at the Grampians Trophy, a competition used an Australian Open tune-up, and then made it as far as the third round of the Australian Open, signalling a bit of a return to form.
Since then, however, the Romanian has lost in the first round in Lyon where she fell to Nina Stojanovic in straight sets, and then lost in the second round of the WTA Dubai. It’s these lack of results, which were on show even last season, that are making life that much more difficult for Cirstea on the singles tour where she is now struggling to break back into the top 50 – the last time she was there was in 2018.
The good news is at 66th in the world, it’s Cirstea’s best ranking since around the latter part of the 2018 season and she starts things off here against a wild-card ranked outside the top 400.

Scott Hoping to Add to Her Main Draw Debut
It was at the 2020 US Open that Scott made her senior pro debut and the 16-year-old won her maiden main draw match there by defeating Natalia Vikhlyantseva in her opener. She then went on to win a set against Amanda Anisimova in the second round before falling in that match, but not before she had had a taste of success at the highest level.
Those two matches were the only ones Scott played at the highest level in 2020, and she has since returned in 2021 to feature on the ITF circuit. At Rome, Scott lost in the first round before having to go through the qualifiers at the Orlando ITF competition where she won three matches to reach the second round.
More recently, she was sent packing in the first round of the Newport Beach ITF tournament by Japan’s Eri Hozumi, but the improvement has been there for all to see.
Can she surprise Cirstea with her pace on the court or will this be one-way traffic in favour of her opponent?
Cirstea v Scott Prediction and Tip
Scott hasn’t been around for too long and if she could use that surprise factor in her favour, we could see her take a set off Cirstea as well. Winning odds are 1/5 for the Romanian and 4/7 to do that in straight sets.
Tip: Scott to win a set – Yes: 5/4 (bet365)
