Aljaz Bedene v Kei Nishikori Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, and that was earlier this month in the round of 16 in Dubai, Nishikori winning in straight sets.

Bedene Struggles Past Italian Qualifier

The Slovenian Bedene is into the second round in Miami for only the third time in his career, but he did not have things by any means his own way in his first-round victory over the Italian qualifier Thomas Fabbiano.

He began badly, losing his first three service games, although there was one breakoff his own sandwiched in the middle of that sequence.

The Italian served for set twice but could not take advantage of the opportunity, was pegged back and it went to a tie-break which Bedene eventually won.

Fabbiano, though took control of the second set and, after breaking Bedene twice, levelled the match.

The pair swapped breaks in the third set but then Fabbiano faltered and the Slovenian took full advantage, breaking him and then hanging on, despite having to survive three break points again his own serve.

Nishikori’s Good Record in Miami

Nishikori has a good record in Miami. He reached the final here in 2016, losing eventually to Novak Djokovic, has reached the semi-finals and three times been to the last eight.

However, he is still looking to regain his former standing in the game after his long injury lay-off, and his 2021 did not start so well, losing his matches in the ATP Cup for Japan, beaten in the first round of the Australian Open by Roberto Carreno-Busta.

However, he did get to the third round in Rotterdam, enjoying morale-boosting wins over Felix Augur-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur along the way, and then got as far as the semi-finals in Dubai, before suffering defeat at the hands of the South African, Lloyd Harris,

He has not played since after being given a first-round bye in Miami.

Bedene v Nishikori Prediction and Tip

There is a very recent form guide to this match, Nishikori having beaten the Slovenian in straight sets in Dubai earlier this month. He can be expected to win again.

Tip: Nishikori to win: 4/9 (bet365)
