Roberto Bautista Agut v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
There have been five matches played on the ATP level between these two players and Bautista-Agut leads 4-1. It was at the last of their encounters, in Dubai last season, that Struff finally managed to score a win over Bautista-Agut, beating him in two hard-fought sets.
Their only other match on hard court surfaces went in favour of the Spaniard. It came at the 2017 Winston-Salem Open.

Bautista Agut Benefits from Harris Withdrawal
The Spaniard might not have won a title this year, yet, but he has shown signs of having left his underwhelming 2020 season behind for sure. Having played in eight tournaments last year, the former world number nine won three matches in a row in a competition just once and that came at the Cincinnati Masters where he reached the semifinal.
From there on, a third round loss at both, the US Open and the French Open and early defeats at Hamburg and Cologne ended his season with some decent results but other frustrating ones.
This year, Bautista-Agut has already made it to two ATP tournament finals. At the Montpellier Open, he won three in a row before losing to David Goffin in the title-decider and then followed it up with victories over Reilly Opelka, Alexander Bublik, Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev is what was probably his best showing in a long time to reach the final.
There he lost to Nikoloz Basilashvili but the confidence from these results should keep him in a good stead, even as he benefits from the in-form Lloyd Harris withdrawing from his second round match because of fitness concerns. That means Bautista-Agut hasn’t hit a tennis ball in anger this whole week and should come into this match fresher than most other players.

Struff Hoping to Stall Poor Showing
With a quarterfinal appearance at the Antalya Open and back to back wins at the ATP Cup, Struff looked to have made a decent start to the season but seems to have fallen away since then.
A win in Dubai followed four successive losses including three in first round of tournaments, and that was again followed by a defeat anyway. Which is why a first round bye here, before he eased past Ricardas Berankis in straight sets would provide Struff some relief.
In doing so, he has also emulated his best performance at the Miami Masters, a third round place in the 2017 edition, but the question now is if he can go further.
What Struff would need is a better first serve than what was on show against Berankis, where he managed just 57% of them and faced six break-points in all. He also struggled to convert a lot of the break-points he himself got – he did convert three of them but missed 12.
Bautista Agut v Struff Prediction and Tip
A fitter and fresher Bautista-Agut should have this wrapped up easily and in straight sets too.
Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
